SIIC IIT Kanpur launched the first edition of the bi-monthly newsletter for the TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs program, ‘Tech for Tribals’, on 26th January 2021

 

   

The launch aims to apprise the key stakeholders and nation at large of the seminal work being done under the program in Chhattisgarh


Kanpur, U.P. 26 January 2021 – The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) under Ministry of Tribal Affairs with support from Ministry of MSME, in collaboration with Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce (Trading and Development) Co-operative Federation Limited (CGMFPFED) and IIT Kanpur launched “Tech for Tribals” initiative on 13th October 2020.To highlight the progress and propagate the cost-effective interventions being deployed by SIIC, IIT Kanpur team, a bi-monthly Newsletter was launched on 26th January 2021, 3 PM – 4 PM. The launch was graced by the presence of Shri Pravir Krishna, Managing Director TRIFED; Shri Sanjay Shukla, Managing Director, Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce (Trading & Development) Co-operative Federation Limited (CGMFPFED); Shri Anand Babu, Additional Managing Director, CGMFPFED; and the SIIC IIT Kanpur PMU team.


 

 

 

The objective of the Newsletter is to reach out to all the stakeholders working towards betterment of the tribals in their respective capacities and ensure information to receive necessary suggestions for further improving the efforts taken under Tech for Tribals(T4T). ShriPravir Krishna said, “I am confident that Tech-for-Tribals program will result in a quantum leap for the lives and livelihoods of lakhs of tribals, the keepers of VanDhan of India. I wish the SIIC, IIT, Kanpur team all the very best in this endeavour. TRIFED shall provide all necessary support required for achieving the program objectives.”Shri Sanjay Shukla, said, “The training and technological inputs from SIIC (IITK), financial support and direction from TRIFED and infrastructural and ground resource support from CGMFPFED will combine to achieve the objectives designed for the scheme.”


Under the Tech for Tribals program, IIT Kanpur is developing course contents relevant to Tribal and Rural Entrepreneurship in Value Addition and Processing of Forest Produces. The course curriculum includes Achievement Motivation and positive psychology, Entrepreneurial Competencies, Identification of locally available NTFP based Business Opportunities, Round the Year capacity utilization, Product positioning - Grading / Sorting, Branding, Packaging, Product certifications, Bankable Project Report preparation, Market Survey, Business Plan Preparation, Distribution Channels- Retail sales, supply contracts with manufacturers, Good Manufacturing Practice(GMP), Total Quality Control(TQC), Hygienic Operations management, Operational and Financial statements, Business Strategy & Growth, and Digital literacy& IT adoption.

It is through such interventions, that the entrepreneurs at the bottom of the pyramid will rise above all challenges with confidence to become “Aatmanirbhar” and set an example not just for the nation but for the whole world.”

About Tech for Tribals


A game changing, and unique project aimed to transform 5 crore Tribal Entrepreneurs with an objective to imparting entrepreneurship skills to tribal forest produce gatherers enrolled under the VanDhan Yojana. The trainees will undergo a 30 days program over six weeks comprising 120 sessions. It is a unique program to make tribals of India “Aatmanirbhar”, focussing to bridge the gap between tribal entrepreneurs and urban markets.
