Visitors’ Hostel (VH)

Designed by architects Kanvinde and Oberai, the Visitors’ Hostel (VH) was among the very first buildings constructed on the campus in 1963, alongside a few laboratories and duplex houses. Its main attraction is the dining hall, featuring an acoustically designed roof that ingeniously channels rainwater through concealed pipes for collection.

The first function hosted at VH was a New Year’s Eve celebration in 1964, organized by Professor Oberai. Since then, VH has had the privilege of welcoming many distinguished personalities from across the world, with Dr. Homi Bhabha being among the earliest guests.

Over time, VH expanded its facilities and currently has various rooms with multiple dining facilities. With the growth of the institute, a second Visitors’ Hostel (VH-2) was established, further enhancing room capacity to accommodate more guests. For long-term visitors accompanied by their families, fully furnished two and three BHK flats were built named as Visiting Faculty Apartments (VFA).

In 2015, an extension of the guest house was developed in Noida to facilitate visitors there, providing both lodging and dining facilities.
