Deltaic Environments, Vulnerability and Climate Change: Migration and Adaptation and Its Policy Implications

PI: Prof. Rajiv Sinha

Climatic hazards and the vulnerability in the Ganga-Brahmaputra and Mahanadi delta

Migration and Adaptation and its Policy Implications has been funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) as a part of Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA) program. The aim of this project is to determine vulnerability in the climatic hotspots and to understand the drivers of migration in the populous deltas in the world. The focus is on the Ganga-Brahmaputra and Mahanadi deltas where, apart from mapping various climatic hazards and vulnerability, we are evaluating a set of climate and landuse/land cover change strategies to project the changes in fluxes of N, P and sediments into the delta system.
