IIT Kanpur Hosts Interactive Climate Awareness Workshop in Collaboration with Vigyan Bharati and Student Gymkhana

 

   

Kanpur, 21 May, 2026: The Academic and Career Council (PG) of IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) IIT Kanpur and Vigyan Bharti (VIBHA) Brahmavart Prant, successfully hosted a pivotal workshop as part of the "Bharat Climate Satyagrah Yatra."



Spearheaded by the "Solar Man of India" and renowned environmentalist Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, this 100-day nationwide movement spans over 5,800 kilometers across 51 cities. The Yatra aims to mobilize citizens toward climate responsibility, encouraging them to take the "Finite Living Pledge" to combat the severe impacts of overconsumption on our finite planet.


The IIT Kanpur event served as a crucial local hub for this national mission, focusing on urgent climate action and sustainable energy practices. The comprehensive initiative was organized under the dynamic leadership of Animesh Kumar Soni, General Secretary of the Academic and Career Council (PG). Alongside his dedicated team members, Ashutosh Deshwal, Aman Shukla, former General Secretary, PG, AnC, and the team, played a pivotal role in bridging the campus academic bodies with external partners to bring this vital climate awareness workshop to the campus community.


The event commenced with a traditional welcome and Lamp Lighting Ceremony, followed by a formal introduction to Prof. Solanki and the mission of the Yatra. Attendees were addressed by prominent dignitaries, including Prof. SSK Iyer from IIT Kanpur, Mr. Shivam Trivedi, Joint Secretary, VIBHA, and Mr. Ravish Chandra Pandey, Principal, KV school IITK. The KV school team, prominently featuring Sahana Rizvi, also played a crucial collaborative role in the proceedings. Students actively participated in thought-provoking conversations and interactive Q&A, exploring how awareness and collective responsibility can drive meaningful social impact in protecting nature and addressing climate challenges.



The PG, AnC Council team extended its gratitude to all distinguished guests and participants who joined this session. This event reinforced IIT Kanpur’s commitment to motivating people to protect nature and spread climate awareness, inspiring students to explore innovative ways to contribute towards a more sustainable and responsible society.


The highlight of the event was an intensive 150-minute workshop conducted by Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, which provided attendees with deep insights into climate mitigation and energy conservation strategies. Following his session, Prof. Solanki was officially felicitated by Prof. Raghvendra Kumar Chaudhary, Faculty Advisor, Mr Animesh Kumar Soni, General Secretary of the PG, AnC Council, Student Gymkhana, IIT Kanpur, and Mr Yogesh RG Singh, Convenor, VIBHA, Kanpur Mahanagar, for his monumental contributions to environmental awareness. The formal proceedings concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Shri Kaustubh Omar, Organising Secretary of VIBHA, who commended the exceptional organizational efforts of the entire collaborative team.
