Kanpur, 24 February 2026: Upholding its rich tradition of celebrating nature and community participation, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) organized its Annual Flower Exhibition at the Institute Nursery, presenting a spectacular display of vibrant flowers, foliage, and ornamental plants. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Braj Bhushan, Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur. The event was also attended by Prof. Arghya Das, Chairperson of the Flower Show Committee, along with committee members Mr. V.K. Tiwari, SE, IWD, and Mr. Satish K. Singh, Secretary.
The exhibition featured two main categories—one comprising plants grown in the residential houses of the institute community and the other including entries from hostels, the Director’s residence, and the guest house. In the residential category, approximately 1,026 potted plants were displayed across multiple sections, reflecting the enthusiasm and horticultural creativity of faculty and staff members. The first prize was awarded to Prof. Pradip Swarnakar, the second prize to Prof. N. Neelakantan, and the third prize to Prof. J. G. Rao. In the second category, more than 2,000 potted plants were showcased in diverse sections. The Director’s residence secured the first position, followed by Hostel No. 12 in second place and Hostel No. 13 in third place, highlighting the active participation of the student community. The judging of the exhibition was conducted by retired professors from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur, ensuring expert evaluation of the entries. The IIT Kanpur Nursery is home to a variety of trees, including Kalpavriksha, Camphor, Rudraksha, and Viksha, along with a well-maintained herbal garden featuring medicinal plants such as Sarpagandha, Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Kapoor Tulsi, and Damvel. The exhibition displayed around 210 species of flowers and foliage plants, in addition to cut flowers, vegetables, and fruits. Among the prominent floral varieties on display were Pansy, Ranunculus, Dog Flower, Verbena, and Primula, adding vibrant colors and diversity to the event. Adding to the festive spirit, the Women’s Association at IIT Kanpur organized a special fair alongside the exhibition, which included a magic show and an art competition for children, making the event a delightful experience for families and visitors alike. The Annual Flower Exhibition once again reflected IIT Kanpur’s commitment to environmental awareness, community engagement, and the celebration of natural beauty within its campus.
