Inauguration of the Expansion of the Central Glass Blowing Section & Special Water Facility (CGBS & SWF) by Prof. Ganesh & Prof. Harish

 

   

The Central Glass Blowing Section (CGBS) lab, established in 1968, has expertise in the design and fabrication of glass and quartz apparatus and is the leading lab in scientific glass blowing in the country. The lab typically handles more than 5000 jobs in a year, including complex designs and caters to the needs of more than 7 departments, apart from undertaking special jobs from other institutes across the country. Vacuum & gas sealing equipment and Special Water Facility (SWF) was added to the lab in 2015. The grant for the expansion was provided by the Institute and was inaugurated by Prof. Indranil Manna (Director, IITK) on 17 Feb 2015. The section was completely renovated in all aspects in 2015 and the modernized section was unveiled by Prof. P.K. Bharadwaj (HOD, Chemistry, IITK).


The newly constructed Workshop Section of Central Glass Blowing Section & Special Water Facility (CGBS & SWF) was inaugurated by Prof. S. Ganesh, Deputy Director, I.I.T. Kanpur on 8 Dec 2020 (Tuesday) at 10:30 am. Prof. A.R. Harish, Dean Research and Development (DORD), Prof. Sameer Khandekar (HOD, Mechanical Engg.) and Prof. Kantesh Balani (HOC, ACMS) kindly graced the occasion.


Five staff members are currently part of the lab team and it is noteworthy that two of them have received the Merit award for exemplary and dedicated service in 2016 and 2018, respectively. I.I.T. Roorkee and I.I.T. Dhanbad have been inspired the IITK model of the glass blowing section.
