IIT Kanpur to host S20, the science vertical of G20 on March 4, 2023

India formally assumed the presidency of G20 – an intergovernmental forum of 20 major developed and developing economy – on December 1, 2022. Science-20 (S20), the science vertical of G20, was launched in 2017, with the purpose to foster a dialogue between the G20 member states and to provide constructive solutions for global issues such as energy equity, healthcare and wellbeing, and making science as an integral part of society. The theme of S20 under India’s presidency is ‘Disruptive Science for Innovative and Sustainable Development’. Under this broad theme, S20 would focus on three areas: 1. Clean Energy for a Greener Future; 2. Universal Holistic Health: Cure and Prevention of Disease; and 3. Connecting Science to Society and Culture.

The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) was established in January 1935 with the objective of promoting science in India and harnessing scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and national welfare. The Kanpur and Lucknow/Nainital/Pantnagar/Ranikhet Chapters are jointly organizing a “Symposium on S20-Aligned Focal Themes: Energy, Health and Society" on 4th March 2023 at IIT Kanpur (C5 Seminar Hall, IME), as a part of G20-S20 outreach activities under Indian National Science Academy (INSA), with Secretariat at IISc Bangalore.
