 July 2019 PG Admission (M. Tech., M.S. by Research and Ph.D.)

 

1. List of candidates selected for PhD admission written test on 02 May, 2019.

2. Call Letter (Please bring a print out of this letter along with you at the time of written test).


Please note:

  1. Admission to M. Tech. Program will be based on GATE score. There will be no written test/interview.

  2. Admissions to M.S. by Research Program will also be based on GATE score. There will be no written test/interview.

  3. Admission to Ph.D. will be based on written test as well as interview.


Arrival: You must try to reach IIT Kanpur Campus on May 01, 2019 (Wednesday) itself as trains can get delayed. Accommodation/venue etc. will be soon updated on the website.


Accommodation during Written Test/Interview:

The online accommodation portal for the shortlisted candidates for PhD admission test/interview will open from 22.04.2019. All candidates can book their accommodation through this portal. URL link will be provided soon. The candidates will be able to book their accommodation by login to the portal using their application number and DOB.
We will inform the shortlisted candidates well in advance. Please check this website for more information. Once your name appears in the list of shortlisted candidates, you can then start booking accommodation from 22.04.2019.


Written Examination: May 02, 2019 (Thursday) from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.


Use of Calculators during Written test (PhD Admission):


All shortlisted candidates coming for written test for PhD admission should note:

  1. No calculators of any type are allowed in the Mathematics Question Paper (One hour written test/ 50 marks).

  2. Non-programmable scientific calculators will be allowed for the specialization/stream question paper (One hour written test/50 marks)


Result of the written exam: Same day in the evening.

Interviews (only for PhD Candidates): May 03, 2019 (Friday) starting from the morning session.


Note: For Ph.D. admissions (where an interview is a must), the to-and-fro second class or sleeper class railway fare or ordinary bus fare will be reimbursed to all SC/ST/PwD candidates who will be appearing for the test/interview in person. The candidates will have to produce tickets for obtaining reimbursement.

 


 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers Master of Technology (M.Tech.), MS (Research) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at the postgraduate level. The postgraduate degree programs have the following broad streams:

  1. Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences (FTS)

  2. Manufacturing Science (MFS)

  3. Robotics and Automation (RA)

  4. Solid Mechanics and Design (SMD)

We offer admission in the following PG programs:

  1. M.Tech.

    The minimum qualification for admission to the M.Tech. program in different streams is a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or in any of the following branches for different streams.

    FTS: Degree in AE, ChE

    MFS: Degree in AE, ChE, MME/MSE, Prod/Manuf Engg

    RA: Degree in AE, CSE, Elect/Electro/Comm Engg, Mechatronics/Instrum Engg

    SMD: AE, CE, MME/MSE, ChE

    The GATE score in ME or any of the eligible branches or XE is acceptable.

  2. M.S. by Research

  3. Ph.D.
