PhD Admission 2022-23 Semester II

Note: Candidates are advised to come a day prior to the written test.
(c)This test will comprise compulsory sections on Applied Mathematics and Basic English, followed by another section based on your first choice of the stream (Fluid and Thermal Sciences, Manufacturing Sciences, Robotics and Automation, and Solid Mechanics and Design).The syllabus for the written test is available here

2. Date of interview: 02 December 2022
Interviews of shortlisted candidates after written tests will begin at 09:30 AM of December 02, 2022 and expected to get over by 7:00 PM on December 02, 2022. Interview will be technical. Questions will be broad-based as well as in the area of specialization indicated in your application.
Some other points:
Arrival: You must try to reach IIT Kanpur Campus on a day prior as trains can get delayed sometimes.Also, conditions may be foggy during that period. I.I.T. Kanpur Campus is about 18 km from Kanpur Central Railway Station. From the station, you may hire a cycle rickshaw upto BARA CHOURAHA at about Rs. 20/- and then travel by a tempo taxi to IIT Gate at about Rs. 30/- per head. From the IIT Gate you may again take a cycle rickshaw into the Campus at Rs. 20/-. Taxies and Three-wheelers from the station (Platform No.1 side) are also available and the fare from Railway Station to IIT Campus is around Rs. 250/- and Rs. 300-350/ respectively.
Accommodation during Written Test/Interview:

Department will sponsor accommodation of the candidates in our halls of residence based on twin sharing basis. The candidates need not pay anything for the accommodation. Please note that we will try to accommodate all candidates subject to the availability of hostel rooms. Accommodation details will be updated in this website later. In hostel rooms, mattress, pillows, quilts will be provided. Candidates may carry their own bedsheets, blankets, etc. Food will be available in hostel messes on payment basis.
Note: Considering the winter weather, please carry sufficient woollen garments, etc.
Use of Calculators during Written test (PhD Admission):
All shortlisted candidates coming for written test for PhD admission should note:

No calculators of any type are allowed in the Mathematics Question Paper (One hour written test/ 50 marks).

Non-programmable scientific calculators will be allowed for the specialization/stream question paper (One hour written test/50 marks)
TA reimbursement:For Ph.D. admissions (where an interview is a must), the to-and-fro second class or sleeper class railway fare or ordinary bus fare will be reimbursed to all SC/ST/PwD candidates who will be appearing for the test/interview in person. The candidates will have to produce tickets for obtaining reimbursement.
Documents needed:Please bring your original certificates, mark sheets and project reports of both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Students with only Bachelor's Degree in Engineering must also bring the original GATE scorecard (Exempted for CFTI's). If you belong to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, or PH category, then you must bring the original certificate supporting your category. If you are presently employed, then you should produce a no objection certificate at the time of the interview. For candidates applying under the sponsored scheme, kindly bring a sponsorship certificate from your parent institute/organization in the original.
