Kanpur, October 09, 2026: IIT Kanpur has inaugurated its 5th Annual International Training Programme, focusing on the use of advanced technology and data-driven approaches to strengthen sustainable agricultural practices. The programme, titled “Development of Sustainability Indicators using Sensor Fusion and Analytics for Agriculture,” is being held from October 7 to 16, 2026.

Launched in 2022, the programme brings together international delegates to explore data-driven approaches to agricultural sustainability, equipping them with multidisciplinary skills for technology-driven sustainable agriculture.

The inaugural proceedings were formally commenced under the chief auspices of Prof. Satyaki Roy, Head, Department of Design, IIT Kanpur, along with programme coordinators Prof. J. Ramkumar, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Design, and Dr. Amandeep Singh Oberoi, SREO Imagineering Laboratory.

The programme also underlined the growing importance of technology, design and knowledge exchange in shaping sustainable agriculture. Prof. Satyaki Roy stressed the need for human-centred, technology-enabled solutions in agriculture and highlighted the role of NPTEL in taking quality technical education beyond institutional and geographical boundaries. He also pointed to the importance of organic farming and sustainable practices for resource conservation, environmental responsibility and long-term agricultural resilience.

The initiative builds on the nearly five-decade-long partnership between IIT Kanpur and the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), creating a platform for cross-border capacity building, specialised technical training and institutional knowledge exchange among delegates from AARDO member nations. Prof. J. Ramkumar highlighted the significance of this continuing collaboration.

Bringing these ideas into practice, the training programme is introducing international participants to technologies and innovations developed at IIT Kanpur through specialised lectures, live instrumentation demonstrations and applied analytics modules. Dr. Amandeep Singh Oberoi outlined how the programme is helping participants develop multidisciplinary skills for technology-driven sustainable agriculture.

Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Dean of International Relations, IIT Kanpur, is also expected to interact with the international delegates during the programme, further strengthening academic engagement, institutional collaboration and knowledge exchange.
