Kanpur, 22 September 2026: The Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), organised a three-day workshop on “Next-Generation Stealth Antennas and Reconfigurable Electromagnetic Structures for Strategic Airborne Applications” under the aegis of the DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE), IIT Kanpur. The workshop provided a platform for experts from defence research organisations, academia and industry to deliberate on emerging technologies in stealth antennas, reconfigurable electromagnetic structures, metasurfaces, radar and strategic airborne systems.

The workshop brought together 70 participants from across the country, representing India’s defence, academic, research and industrial ecosystem. Participants included representatives from RCI, ADE, LRDE, DLRL, DMSRDE, ITR, CFEES and CEMILAC, along with experts from IITs, IIITs, universities, research institutions and technology companies.

The three-day programme featured 15 technical sessions, along with a panel discussion, industry interactions, an exhibition, laboratory visits and a gala dinner. The sessions covered key areas including stealth antennas, radar cross-section (RCS) analysis, reconfigurable metasurfaces, infrared camouflage, advanced electromagnetic materials, manufacturing technologies for stealth systems, and radar technologies.

A significant focus of the workshop was to bridge the gap between fundamental electromagnetic research and the requirements of strategic airborne platforms. The event provided a common platform for scientists, academicians, researchers, students, and industry professionals to exchange ideas on low-observable antenna technologies, electromagnetic materials, and next-generation stealth technologies.

The programme also included industry talks and an exhibition, offering opportunities for interaction with technology companies and exposure to contemporary RF and microwave technologies, electromagnetic simulation tools, and measurement solutions. Laboratory visits included the Microwave Measurement Lab, PCB Lab, EMI/EMC Lab, mmWave Research Lab, and Structures Lab in Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kanpur, offering participants an opportunity to gain insight into the Institute’s research and technological capabilities.

The workshop was inaugurated at the Outreach Auditorium, IIT Kanpur, in the presence of Dr. N. Ranjana, Outstanding Scientist and Director, DFTM, DRDO, who attended as the Chief Guest. The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Prof. Jayandharan G. Rao, Dean, Research & Development, IIT Kanpur; Prof. Saikat Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur; Dr. Meena Mishra, Director, DIA-CoE, IIT Kanpur; Prof. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava; and Prof. Raghvendra Kumar Chaudhary, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur.

The workshop strengthened collaboration and knowledge exchange among DRDO scientists, academic researchers, and industry experts. It provided a platform to advance discussions on next-generation electromagnetic technologies and their applications in strategic airborne systems, contributing to the development of indigenous technologies for future strategic applications.

The three-day workshop successfully concluded with a valedictory ceremony. The workshop is coordinated by Prof. Raghvendra Kumar Chaudhary and Prof. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur. Through focused technical sessions and interaction among DRDO scientists, academic researchers, and industry experts, the workshop seeks to strengthen collaboration and facilitate knowledge exchange toward the development of indigenous technologies for future strategic airborne applications.
