Greetings from the Department of Management Sciences!!

The Department of Management Sciences (DoMS) (erstwhile Department of Industrial and Management Engineering), IIT Kanpur, is first of its kind in the country to leverage the analytical education of engineers to train them into management professionals. Established as an interdisciplinary program in 1974, it subsequently evolved as a full-fledged department in 1988 and given the diversity of its programs from MBA, MTech, PhD, eMasters etc. has metamorphosed into the Department of Management Sciences (DoMS) from Department of Industrial and Management Engineering (DIME).

Admissions to the MBA Program at the Department of Management Sciences (DoMS), IIT Kanpur for the 2026-2028 Batch

Eligibility
Qualifying Examination

To apply for the academic session of 2026-2028 (2026-2028 MBA Batch), an applicant must appear for the CAT 2025 examination conducted by IIMs.

Stage 1: Initial Application

Application: Apply by filling the online form (https://pingala.iitk.ac.in/MBADM-0/login) if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria for the MBA Program

The following are the eligibility requirements for applying to MBA program at Department of Management Sciences (DoMS), IIT Kanpur and will be used for shortlisting

For GEN, EWS and OBC applicants

  • Overall score of 80 percentile or above in CAT-2025
  • 65% and above in Class X and Class XII examinations.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent awarded by any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India with aggregate of 60% or a CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10.
    The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent (diploma) with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

For SC/ST and PWD

  • Overall score of 55 percentile or above in CAT-2024
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent awarded by any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India with aggregate of 50% or a CPI of 5.0 on a scale of 10.
    The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent (diploma) with Mathematics as one of the subjects.
Note: Candidates appearing for the final degree examination can also apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be admitted provisionally. They must complete all the requirements of the qualifying degree at the time of joining the MBA Programme.
STAGE 2: Short Listing of the Applications

The shortlisting of the applications for further processing will be based on CAT-2024 percentile. The department will decide the cut-off percentiles for different categories based on the total number of eligible and completed applications received and the total number of approved seats in each category. Overall CAT-2024 percentile will be considered for shortlisting.

STAGE 3: Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) assessment

GD/PI: GD/PI assessment will be conducted for the short-listed applicants. GD panels will evaluate applicant's performance in group discussion.

The panels conducting PI assessment will evaluate candidates’ (a) academic background (b) work experience & (c) performance in the interview using a prior developed scoring matrix. The GD and PI assessment panels will have members from Department of Management Sciences, other departments of IIT Kanpur, and experts from outside IIT Kanpur, if necessary.

STAGE 4: Merit List Preparation

All short-listed applicants qualifying Stage 3 will be considered for the merit list preparation. The list will be prepared for each category based on the aggregate score arrived by adding individual scores of each candidate.

Please note that for

  1. Stages 2, 3 and 4 for [GN, EWS, OBC (NCL)] and [SC & ST] applicants will be conducted independently. These two groups, i.e., [GN + EWS + OBC (NCL)] and [SC + ST] will not be compared at any stage during the admission process.
  2. For each category, a final merit list and a wait list will be prepared.

Fees for Application (non-refundable):

The application fee for General/OBC(NCL)/EWS candidates is INR 2000/-

Fee for SC/ST/DAP (Differently Abled Persons) candidates is INR 1000/-

Note 1: Special provision for Gender Diversity:

To promote gender diversity in the MBA batches, the department plans to continue with a gender diversity multiplier for the shortlisted female applicants.

The gender diversity incorporated final score will be capped at the maximum score (100).

Note 2 : Merit lists for applicants belonging to different categories (GN, OBC/NCL, EWS, SC, ST, DAP) will be prepared and as per the GoI norms on reservation. The cut offs for different categories will be decided by the admissions committee for MBA 2025 admissions.

The approved norms on reservation [OBC (NCL): 27%, SC: 15%, EWS: 10%, ST: 7.5% and DAP (Differently Abled Persons) 3% horizontal across GN, SC, ST and OBC (NCL)] will be observed.

Note 3: At any stage during the admissions process or during the M.B.A. program at IIT Kanpur, if it is found that the candidate has misrepresented, falsified, or hidden relevant information, his/her candidature/admission would be summarily rejected, and the candidate would have to leave the program if he/she has joined the same and no fee deposited will be refunded.
