Brief Biography:

Dr. Ashutosh Verma is a civil engineer and currently an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at IIT Kanpur in the Department of Civil Engineering. His research focuses on computational geomechanics, with a special emphasis on retaining walls and encased stone columns. During his Ph.D. from IIT Roorkee, he focused on physical modeling and experimental geotechnics to develop design charts for reinforced earth walls and abutments. He completed his M.Tech. from NIT Agartala, concentrating on the experimental and numerical behavior of subgrade using alternate fill materials. During his B.Tech. at NIT Durgapur, he optimized recycled fill materials for various engineering applications. Dr. Verma's work is oriented towards geo-environmentally sustainable practices, emphasizing the use of alternate and recycled materials. He has also been actively involved in consultancy projects across India, focusing on the rehabilitation of distressed geo-structures such as retaining walls, ash dikes, highway embankments etc.

My research interests broadly lie in Bitumen Binder and Pavement Materials, with specific focus on:

• Polymer-Modified Asphalt Binders
• Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP)

Advanced Characterization Techniques: FTIR spectroscopy, CLSM, SEM–EDX, and image-based analysis for linking microstructure to macroscopic performance.

"Dr. Jasim Nisar is an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow (IPDF) in the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur. His PhD focused on LDPE–SBS composite modified asphalt binders, investigating rheological performance, aging resistance, morphological behavior, and storage stability using advanced characterization techniques. His doctoral research employed advanced rheological, chemical, and microstructural characterization techniques such as DSR, FTIR, SEM, and the findings have been published in peer-reviewed international journals. His current research focuses on Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) Materials with emphasis on studying binder blending mechanisms, improving rejuvenator diffusion. He has also generated new insights on optimization in composite polymer modified asphalt binder.”

Brief Biography:

Dr. Nazrul Islam received his Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), with doctoral research conducted at CSIR–North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat, Assam. His research interests include atmospheric particulate matter pollution, aerosol chemistry, PM-bound hazardous compounds, and their environmental and human health impacts. His work involves the application of advanced analytical techniques and statistical tools to study aerosol sources, transformation processes, and air quality–related health risk assessment. Dr. Islam has published more than 17 peer-reviewed research articles (Total citations: 595; h-index: 14), including contributions to high-impact journals such as Journal of Hazardous Materials (Impact Factor: 11.3). He is a recipient of the Best Performing CSIR Senior Research Fellow Award (2022–2023). His research also encompasses interdisciplinary studies on the upcycling of ambient particulate matter into functional carbon nanomaterials. Brief Biography:

"Dr. Saurabh Singh is an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow (IPDF) in the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur. He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from MNIT Jaipur, including a six-month research stint at North Dakota State University (USA). After completing his Ph.D., he worked for four months at IIT (BHU) Varanasi on the SLCR project, contributing to research and project-based environmental engineering activities. His research focuses on wastewater treatment using constructed wetlands, with emphasis on improving the removal of organic matter and nutrients through process and design optimization. He has developed customized design frameworks aimed at reducing constructed wetland area requirements without compromising treatment performance. He has also generated new insights on depth optimization in wetland systems and supported these findings using metagenomic (microbial community) analysis to link treatment efficiency with biological processes."

Research Area: My research area involves the use of Finite Element Analysis and Finite Element Limit Analysis based numerical modelling in order to examine the stability of various types of foundations, excavations and anchors. My latest research area involves the use of finite element limit analysis in order to examine the stability of various geostructures under the influence of excess pore water pressure generation during an earthquake. I have also conducted experimental model tests on foundations resting on sand and clays.

I have passed my B.E. in Construction Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in the year 2019 with 1st class Honors and also secured 2nd position in class. Then I joined Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in the year 2019 and have passed my MTech (Research) and PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the Civil Engineering Department at IISc in April,2025. Presently, I am working as an Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Kanpur.

Brief Biography:

Dr. Vinit Kumar Tripathi is an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow (IPDF) in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Kanpur. He obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from NIT Delhi, India. Before joining IIT Kanpur, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at NIT Goa and served as an Assistant Professor at RV University and M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru. His research focuses on the linear and nonlinear stability of convection in fluid and porous media, with particular emphasis on bidispersive porous systems, variable material properties, and generalized thermal boundary conditions. His work integrates rigorous mathematical analysis with advanced numerical techniques to understand stationary and oscillatory instabilities relevant to geophysical and engineering applications.

Research Interests: My research focuses on the dynamic behaviour of geomaterials with a particular emphasis on rocks and jointed rock masses under seismic and other dynamic loading conditions. I work on experimental and predictive modelling of stress- and frequency-dependent dynamic properties, wave propagation, and vibration isolation using resonant-column and cyclic torsional-shear apparatus. I am also interested in rock mass characterization, joint roughness quantification using cost-effective photogrammetry, and the development of damping layers (such as natural rubber latex) to improve the performance of jointed rocks under seismic and explosive loading.

Brief Biography: Dr. Sakshi Rohilla is an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. She obtained her B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Deenbandhu Chhoturam University of Science and Technology, Murthal, her M.Tech. in Geotechnical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, and her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. Her research interests include the dynamic behaviour of geomaterials, rock mass characterization, wave propagation through rocks and jointed rock masses, vibration isolation, and seismic hazard assessment. She has conducted extensive experimental work using a resonant column and a cyclic torsional shear apparatus to investigate the frequency- and stress-dependent dynamic properties of intact and jointed rocks, including the role of joint roughness and natural rubber latex damping layers under seismic and explosive loading.

Research Interests: My research focuses on structural engineering, particularly the development of computationally efficient modeling techniques for complex profile steel and composite structures. My areas of interest include homogenization-based modeling, computational mechanics, finite element analysis, instability of steel structure, structural reliability, and the behavior of thin-walled composite structures under static and dynamic loading.

Brief Biography: Dr. Uttam Kumar Pandit is an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He obtained his B.E. in Civil Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, his M.Tech. in Structural Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand, and his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar. His doctoral research focused on the development of homogenization-based modeling techniques for corrugated steel structures. During his doctoral research, he developed a novel homogenization scheme and validated its accuracy through extensive experimental testing and numerical simulations. The proposed approach transforms complex corrugated geometries into equivalent flat orthotropic plates, enabling efficient numerical analysis of corrugated steel web girders and corrugated steel plate infill walls. His work addressed static, vibration, and stability problems, including lateral-torsional buckling, and contributed to the development of reliability-based shear design guidelines for corrugated steel web girders. The proposed methodologies significantly improved computational efficiency while maintaining high predictive accuracy.

As a co-founder of Infradymaix Stiffness Monitoring Pvt. Ltd., a technology-driven startup focused on structural health monitoring and engineering design solutions, he contributes to consultancy and infrastructure assessment projects across India.
