
India’s Leading Medical and Engineering Minds Converge at IIT Kanpur for MIDNAMSCON 2025

In a one-of-a-kind convergence of medicine and technology, IIT Kanpur, in association with the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) and in partnership with GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, successfully hosted the Mid-Term Conference MIDNAMSCON 2025 and CME Workshop.
Eminent dignitaries and Padma awardees from the fields of medicine and engineering graced the event. Leading the inauguration were: Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO–ANRF (Chief Guest), Prof. Digambar Behera, President, NAMS, Padma Shri, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur, Padma Shri, Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, President, INSA, Padma Shri, along with Prof. Ashok Kumar, Convener MIDNAMSCON 2025 and Director IIT Kanpur-La Trobe University Research Academy, and Prof. Saroj Chooramani Gopal, Organizing Secretary, Padma Shri.
The conference brought together over 70 eminent experts and faculty members as speakers and panelists, making it one of the most diverse gatherings of thought leaders in healthcare and technology. The meticulously curated program featured a super-compact schedule with back-to-back talks, panel discussions, and student-led activities, ensuring high engagement and intellectual exchange throughout.
Opening the event, Prof. Ashok Kumar, organizer of this whole event stressed that “the amalgamation of engineering and medicine can direct the growth of India’s healthcare system within the global scenario in the coming years.” Highlighting the pivotal role of MedTech in shaping the future of healthcare, he outlined the roadmap for fostering collaborative efforts—particularly those that can be advanced through joint initiatives between IIT Kanpur and leading medical institutions.
Chief Guest, Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman outlined the role of ANRF in advancing science and academia, urging researchers and doctors to benefit from government schemes supporting MedTech development.
In his keynote, Prof. Digambar Behera reflected on the often-overlooked role of technology in medicine, reminding us that “Even a simple stethoscope was possible because of technology. Today, it is essential for the medical fraternity to join hands with engineers to exponentially expand healthcare solutions and overcome challenges in day-to-day patient care.”
On the occasion, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director IIT Kanpur stated “At IIT Kanpur, we firmly believe that the convergence of engineering and medicine holds the key to addressing some of our time's most pressing healthcare challenges. Key events such as MIDNAMSCON 2025 catalyze interdisciplinary collaboration, where clinicians, academic experts, and technologists come together to co-create bench-to-bedside solutions that are innovative, scalable and impactful. I wish to congratulate Prof. Ashok Kumar, Dr. Chooramani, and the entire organizing team on successfully organizing this event.”
Prof. Ashutosh Sharma underscored the transformative role of AI and bioengineering innovations in India’s MedTech sector, calling them “The engines of the nation’s healthcare growth.”
Adding further perspective, Prof. Sanjay Kala, Principal, GSVM Medical College , remarked: “AI is a tool and not a replacement for human intelligence. To break barriers, engineers, innovators, and doctors must join hands and work together for creative ideas and fertile outcomes.”
While Prof. Sandeep Verma, Head- Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology-IIT Kanpur emphasized the role of futuristic engineering and policy in advancing patient care.
The inaugural session concluded with Prof. Saroj Chooramani Gopal, Organizing Secretary, MIDNAMSCON 2025, commending the heavy enthusiasm, and strong student participation organizing this event shaping MIDNAMSCON 2025 into a milestone event.
The event was further enriched by the presence of some of India’s most distinguished figures: Dr. G.P. Talwar (Padma Bhushan, Talwar Research Foundation), Dr. N.K. Ganguly (Padma Bhushan, former DG, ICMR), Dr. Vishwa Mohan Katoch (Padma Shri, former DG, ICMR), Prof. Ashok K. Gupta (Padma Shri, NAMS Observer, BHIMS Mumbai), Prof. Y.K. Gupta (President, AIIMS Jammu), Prof. Y.K. Chawla (Chairman, KIMS Bhubaneswar), Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar (IIT Delhi), Prof. S.N. Over its two days, MIDNAMSCON 2025 emerged as a vibrant platform with 200+ participants blending clinical expertise, engineering innovation, and student energy, charting a collaborative roadmap for the future of Indian healthcare.
