Under the aegis of DST Nanomission, center for nanoscience is chosen as one of the TPF-Nano centers for three years starting from 2017. The major theme of the project is to develop diagnostic tools and methods for early detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and oral Cancer under controlled environment using novel nano-bio platform. These two chronic and infectious diseases haven been identified that affect majority of population of India and wish to develop strategies for its early detection. In India, the cancer mortality rate is particularly high (~0.3 million deaths/year). Head and neck cancers constitute the sixth most common cancer worldwide and are associated with low survival and high morbidity. On the other hand, bacterial meningitis and tuberculosis is the leading cause of morbidity throughout the world. It is well known that early detection is the key to cure these diseases. We propose to combine our expertise in biology and nanotechnology to gain critical insight into complex biological phenomena and develop different platforms for early detection of the diseases. Specific methodologies to achieve above mentioned goals are given below:

 

  • Multiscale Scaffolds as Fabrication Platform for Screening, Analysis and Development of in vitro 3D platform for Tuberculosis
  • Development of MEMSMicrocantilever Sensors for Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB)
  • Polymeric composite grafted with Cu-nanoparticle-dispersed carbon nanofibers: An efficient electrode of the electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis
  • Ready to use Mycobacterial culture growth media nanofiber mats
  • Paper Based Microfluidic Biosensors for Early Detection of Oral Cancer from Salivary Biomarkers
