  • Ph.D. student Debdeep Sarkar got First prize for oral presentation for paper with Dr. K V Srivastava, entitled "A Compact Two Element MIMO Antenna System for Pattern and Polarization Diversity" in the Microwave Engineering and Antenna track of 3rd IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics (IEEE UPCON 2016) held at IIT BHU (9-11 December 2016)

  • Ph.D. student Anju Meghwani (13204063) received 'Dr. Ramamoorthy best paper Award in Power Electronics and Drives' for paper with Dr. S C Srivastava and Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti, entitled "A Fast Scheme for Fault Detection in DC Microgrid Based on Voltage Prediction" in the 19th National power Systems Conference (NPSC 2016) held at IIT Bhubaneswar during 19-21 December, 2016.

  • Vivek Kumar Pandit PhD student with Professor A. R. Harish won best poster across all the tracks titled "Design of Dual-Band CPW-Fed Monopole Antenna with Dual Band AMC Surface for WLAN" at 13th International IEEE India Conference (INDICON 2016) at Bangalore, India on December 16th-18th, 2016.

  • Ms Debasmita Panda, PhD student, under supervision of Prof SN Singh has won the first prize on her work entitled "Risk Based Optimal genco’s Self" in M V Chauhan All India Student Paper Contest 2016. M V Chauhan All India Student Paper Contest 2016 tried to bring together all IEEE students members of India to discuss the latest advancements and future directions in the areas of IEEE. The contest invited full paper submissions from undergraduate and PG students in all areas of interest to IEEE in the Engineering, Technology and Science.

  • Department ranks 57 in QS World University Rankings-2016 by Subject. The rank was 105 in 2015.

  • Mr. Vineel Kumar Veludandi PhD student with Prof. K Vasudevan has been awarded the best presenter at the 2016 International Conference on Communication, Image and Signal Processing (CCISP 2016), Dubai, UAE, November 18-20, 2016 for paper titled "Noncoherent detection of DQPSK in OFDM systems using Predictive VA"

  • Prof. S. N. Singh becomes Fellow of IEEE for leadership and contributions to power engineering education.

  • Prof. S. N. Singh has been elected as "IEEE India Council Chair-Elect 2017" by the IEEE India Council Members.

  • Prof. S.N. Singh has been selected for the IEEE R10 (Asia-Pacific) Outstanding Volunteer Award – 2016 in recognition of his professional leadership and contributions to IEEE UP Section and IEEE Region 10.

  • IITK-TCS team under guidance of Prof. L. Behera secured fifth position in Amazon Picking Challenge held in Leipzig, Germany.

  • Prof. S. N. Singh has been selected for the Outstanding Teacher Award 2016 of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE)

  • Olive Ray, (Supervisors: Dr Santanu Mishra and Dr A Joshi) has won the 2nd Prize (PhD Category) in the IAS CMD Student Thesis Contest 2016

  • Vignesh V has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2016) for his Ph.D. thesis titled, "Stability Analysis and Control of Power Systems with High Wind Penetration Including New Approach of Load Modelling" (Supervisors: Dr. S.C.Srivastava and Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti). He was among the top 10 candidates in Doctoral category.

  • Vivek Nandan Lal has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2016) for his Ph.D. thesis titled, "Performance Analysis and Power Forecasting of Single Stage Large Scale Grid Connected PV System" (Supervisors: Dr. S.N. Singh)

  • Sanjeev Kumar Mallick has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2016) for his Ph.D. thesis titled, "Hybrid State Estimation and Enhanced Monitoring of Power Systems Using Synchrophasors" (Supervisors: Dr. S.N .Singh and Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti)

  • Neeraj Kumar Sharma has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2016) for his M.Tech. thesis titled, "Observability analysis & topology error processing of power systems in the presence of hybrid measurements" (Supervisors: Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti)

  • Rahul Ranjan Jha has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2016) for his M.Tech. thesis titled, "Development of Control Strategies for Power Management with Renewable Resources"(Supervisor: Dr. S.C. Srivastava). He was among the top 10 candidates in Masters category.

  • Bharadwaj Kaka has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2016) for his M.Tech. thesis titled, "Design, Simulation and Development of Multifunctional active power filter for Power distribution system" (Supervisors: Dr. S.P. Das)

  • Abhishek Maji has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2016) for his M.Tech. thesis titled, "Power Quality Improvement and Power Capacity Enhancement of Power Plant for Rural Telecom Applications" (Supervisors: Dr. Santanu Mishra)

  • Mr. Abhishek Kumar Jha, pursuing PhD under Prof. Jaleel Akhtar has received the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) 2016 Award from the Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) in collaboration with the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC)-Departmentof Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India (GoI).

    The award was given for the project entitled “A Compact Microwave Sensor for Characterization of Radomes and Dielectric Signature Detection of Materials in 3G And 4G GSM Bands”. This project, pursued by Mr. Abhishek Kumar Jha as part of his PhD program has been considered as one of the top 19 entrepreneurial technologies and was awarded under the Technological-Edge category of BIRAC-DBT, GoI.

  • The team (EE@IITK+TCS) was been selected to participate in Amazon Picking Challenge at RoboCup 2016 in Leipzig, Germany.

  • Saksham Agarwal, a third year Undergraduate, has won the prestigious 'Honda Young Engineer and Scientist Award' for the year 2015.

  • Mr. Debdeep Sarkar, PhD student of Dr. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava has won the Best Report Award in the International Microwave and RF Conference organized by IEEE MTT Society on December 10-12, 2015 at Hyderabad. The certificate for the award is available in the following link:

  • Project on "RF Sensor for Contamination Detection in Edible Products" involving PhD and M.Tech students under the guidance of prof. MJ Akhtar have been awarded second prize at the IEEE SIGHT Design Contest held in Hyderabad on December 10, 2015. The contest was organized the IEEE MTT/AP Society on sidelines of the IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (IMaRC 2015), where proposals were invited from groups engaged in development of microwaves and RF technologies (MHz through THz) for humanitarian applications.   • Project on "Ambient RF Energy Scavengers for Health Monitoring Appliances in Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) " involving PhD and M.Tech students under the guidance of prof.   • A book by Dr. Aditya K. Jagannatham titled "Principles of Modern Wireless Communications Systems" has been recently published by Tata McGraw Hill.

  • Dr. Somak Bhattacharyya who defended his PhD thesis in April 2015 and was supervised by Prof. Vaibhav Srivastava has been awarded first position in Young Scientist Award in "2nd URSI Regional Conference on Radio Science (RCRS 2015)" organized by Indian Committee for International Union of Radio Sciences (INC-URSI), Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and School of Environemental Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi held during 16-19 November, 2015 in Jawaharlal Nehru Univeristy, New Delhi for his paper titled "A broadband microwave metamaterial absorber with octave bandwidth"

  • Paper titled "Thermal Imaging based CBM on Android Platform" Co-authored by Prof. Nishchal Verma and his PhD student Ms Sonal Dixit won Best Poster Award at IEEE Bombay Section Symposium held in Mumbai, September 10-11, 2015

  • Professor Y N Singh has received IEEE Region 10 EA Award on Major Educational Innovation (2014) for spearheading the opensource Brihaspati initiative

  • Abhishek Kumar Jha, PhD student with Dr. Jaleel Akhtar, has received the prestigious Graduate Fellowship Award of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society for 2015. The award is given every year by the IEEE MTT Society to 8-10 PhD students selected from all over the world. This award is offered first time ever to a PhD student from an Indian Academic Institution.

  • Ankush Sharma has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2015) for his Ph.D. thesis titled, “Multi-Area Power System State Estimation Utilizing Synchrophasor Measurements, Multi Agents and Common Information Model” (Supervisors: Dr. S.C.Srivastava and Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti). He was among the top 10 candidates in Doctoral category.

  • Ch V V S Bhaskara Reddy has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2015) for his Ph.D. thesis titled, “Early Detection & Control of Voltage Stability and Fast Assessment of ATC Using Synchrophasor Measurements” (Supervisors: Dr. S.C.Srivastava and Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti)

  • Mahesh Kumar has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2015) for his Ph.D. thesis titled, “Design Modelling and Control of Smart DC Microgrid for Integration of Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy Sources” (Supervisors: Dr. S.C.Srivastava and Dr. S.N.Singh)

  • Kanna Bhaskar has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2015) for his Ph.D. thesis titled, “Wind Power Forecasting & its Applications in Optimal Bidding and Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch of Wind Farms” (Supervisor: Dr. S.N.Singh)

  • Shikha Chittora has been selected for POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2015) for her M.Tech. thesis titled, “Coherency Based Dynamic Equivalencing of Electric Power System” (Supervisors: Dr. S.N. Singh)

  • Megha Nawhal and Priyajeet Kaur received Eaton Excellence Award in December 2014.

  • Dr. Shilpi Gupta has been awarded Ramanujan Fellowship

  • IIT Kanpur team consisting of Amrita Bal, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Deepam Kedia and Gaurangi Gupta (Mentor: Dr. A. R. Harish) has won the Second Prize in the 2014 AP-S Student Design Contest held at 2014 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation, Memphis, TN, USA in July 2014. This is the first time that an Indian Team has reached to the final round.

  • Pragya Kushwaha (PhD student with Dr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan) received Best Paper Award for her paper titled "BSIM-IMG with Improved Surface Potential Calculation Recipe" at IEEE INDICON, Pune, Dec. 2014.

  • Avirup Dasgupta (PhD student with Dr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan) received Best Poster Award for his paper titled "Analysis and Modeling of Quantum Capacitance in III-V Transistors" at IEEE International Conference on Emerging Electronics (ICEE), Bangalore, Dec. 2014.

  • Article entitled "Design of 2D metamaterial Cloak with Minimum Scattering Using Quadratic Transformation Function", authored by Archana Rajput and Dr. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava has been featured on Cover Page of AIP Journal of Applied Physics (vol. 116, No. 12, Sept 2014).

  • PhD student Ruchi Tripathi has received the best presenter award in the PhD Forum at International Conference on Communication Systems & Networks (COMSNETS) 2014, held in Delhi, Jan. 6-10.

  • M. Tech. student, Mr. Mahesh Vardikar working with Prof. Saikat Chakrabarti won the POSCO Power System Award (PPSA 2014). Thesis title: Power system state estimation with external network equivalents considering measurement transformation.

  • Professor S. N. Singh (EE) has been awarded Dr. P. S. Nigam Power Sector Award 2014 for the Best Technical Paper on Power Section entitled PQ Capabilities Curve of a single-stage Utility Scale Grid Connected PV Systems during the 94th Annual General Meeting of the Institution of Engineers (India), UP State Center held on November 30, 2014 at Lucknow. This paper is co-authored by Mr. Vivek Nandan Lal, PhD student.

  • Professor S. N. Singh (EE) has been elected as Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering.

  • Professor Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava (EE) has been selected for IEI Young Engineer Award in Electrical Engineering discipline.

  • M. Tech. thesis of Mr. M. Shaji, has been selected for the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award/Appreciation 2014. Mr. Shaji developed a Non-invasive Coplanar Microwave Sensor during his M. Tech. work, which was tested for detecting contamination in various food products. This work was also patented.

  • Mr. Karan Nathwani has been selected for Raman-Charpak Fellowship for this year. He is doing PhD with Prof. Rajesh Hegde.

  • Paper by Raju Ranjan, Sumana Gupta and K. S. Venkatesh on "Semi-Interactive region segmentation based on sparse representation"has been awarded with "The Best Paper" award in IEEE INDICON 2013 held at IIT Bombay, 13th-15th Dec.

  • Paper by Saumik Bhattacharya, Sumana Gupta and K. S. Venkatesh titled "Multipoint image destabilization using disparity map" has received the best paper award in session on Computational Techniques at the Second Michael Farady IET India Summit 2013, organized by IET Kolkata branch, 17th-18th Nov., 2013.

  • Paper by Shantanu Agnihotri, Audip Ghosh, Avirup Dasgupta, Sourabh Khandelwal and Yogesh Singh Chauhan on "A surface potential based model for GaN HEMTs" has received the "Gold Leaf Certificate" in IEEE Asia-Pacific conference on postgraduate research in microelectronics and electronics (Prime Asia 2013) held at GITAM University Visakhapatnam from 19-21 December, 2013.

  • Paper by Soumya Shubhra Nag, Ravindranath Adda, Olive Ray and Dr. Santanu Mishra "Current-Fed Switched Inverter Based Hybrid Topology for DC Nanogrid Application" has won the best paper award in the session in 39th Annual Conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IECON 2013) held in Vienna, Austria, Nov 10-13, 2013.

  • Paper by Vipul Arora and Prof. Laxmidhar Behera "Semi-supervised Polyphonic Source Identification using PCLA based Graph Clustering" has won the best student paper award in 14th International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference, 4-8 Nov., 2013, Brazil.

  • Dr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan has been selected as one of the IBM Faculty Award recipients for the year 2013.

  • PhD thesis work of Dr. Sandeep Anand has been chosen for the INAE innovative Student Project Award 2013.

  • Prof. Adrish Banerjee, selected for "P. K. Kelkar Young Faculty Research Fellowship".

  • Prof. S. N. Singh, selected for "2013 IEEE Educational Activities Board Meritorious Award in Continuing Education".

  • Mr. Ankush Sharma and Mr. Paramarshi Banerjee) working with Prof. S. C. Srivastava have won the first prize of student pavilion (competing with 33 other institutes participated from India and abroad) in Gridtech 2013 organized by Power grid Corporation of India in association with Ministry of Power during 3-5 April 2013 in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The title of the project was "Remote Monitoring and Control for Power System Network Using Mobile SCADA Application".

  • Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO) - a subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID), in partnership with the Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi, has awarded POSOCO Power System Award (PPSA 2013) to the following PhD theses for innovative research in the areas of power systems.

    • Dr. Seethalekshmi K., thesis titled "Developmet of Adaptive Load Scheduling and Distance relaying scheme utilizing synchophasor technology". Her thesis supervisors were Prof. S. N. Singh and Prof. S. C. Srivastava.

    • Dr. Sachin Jain, thesis titled "Estimation of stationary and time-varying harmonics in emerging power systems". His thesis supervisor was Prof. S. N. Singh.

    • Dr. Naveen Jain, thesis titled "Swarm intelligence based DG and capacitor planning in distribution networks". His thesis supervisors were Prof. S. N. Singh and Prof. S. C. Srivastava.

  • Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO) - a subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID), in partnership with the Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi, has awarded POSOCO Power System Award (PPSA 2013) to the following M. Tech. theses for innovative research in the areas of power systems.

    • Dongare Kapil Subhash, thesis titled "Power system state estimation considering real-time equivalents of the external networks". Thesis supervised by Prof. S. Chakarabarti.

    • Sivanagaraju Gangavarapu, thesis titled "Current differential protection of transmission line considering parameter uncertainties". Thesis supervised by Prof. S. Chakrabarti and Prof. S. C. Srivastava.

  • Two papers authored by Mr. Somak Bhattacharyya, Saptarshi Ghosh, Debdeep Sarkar and Prof. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava have received the best paper award of their respective sessions in Sixth Annual Conference of Antenna Test and Measurement Society of India (ATMS) held in Kolkata during 11-13 February, 2013. the title of the papers are:

    • "Design of an Ultra Thin Dual Band Microwave Meta-material Absorber," authored by Saptarshi Ghosh, Debdeep Sarkar, Somak Bhattacharyya and Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava (Best Paper of Session 1 of the Conference; paper presented by Mr. Saptarshi Ghosh).

    • "Design of a Dual Band-Notched Ultra-Wideband Antenna Using CSRR and Modified Mushroom-Type EBG Structure," authored by Debdeep Sarkar, Saptarshi Ghosh, Somak Bhattacharyya and Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava (Best Paper of Session 3 of the Conference; paper presented by Mr. Debdeep Sarkar).

  • Mr. Somak Bhattacharyya (PhD student under supervision of Dr. K. V. Srivastava) has been selected for Young Scientist Award in "International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory, 2013 (EMTS, 2013)" organized by International Union of Radio Sciences (URSI) scheduled to be held on 19-24 May, 2013 in Hiroshima, Japan.

  • Prof. S. C. Srivastava received "Academic Excellence Award 2012" at 17th National Power Systems Conference held at IIT BHU, Varanasi.

  • Prof. M. Ramamoorty (former faculty EE) received "Malviya Excellence Award in Power Systems 2012", at 17th National Power Systems Conference held at IIT BHU, Varanasi. He is the first recipient of the award.

  • Prtotype of a 3-phase power Supply which not only works over a wide variation of 90-480 V but also if one of the three phases are energized, has been designed by Prof. Shantanu Mishra and was displayed at Telecom Center of Excellence stall at India Telecom 2012, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

  • Anurag Kumar (EE) and Pranay Dighe (CSE) win Samsung Innovation Award for thier project CLASAT.

  • Ganesh Pitchiah (EE) and Pragyanandesh Narayan Tripathi (EE) recognized for their innovation 'Virtual Object in Real World Interacting and Sharing'.

  • Dr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan has been awarded Ramanujan Fellowship by Department of Science and Technology.

  • Dr. Saikat Chakrabarti has been selected for P. K. Kelkar Young Faculty Research Fellowship award.

  • Dr. Aditya K. Jagannatham has been selected for P. K. Kelkar Young Faculty Research Fellowship award.

  • Professor Aloke Dutta has been selected for Ranjit Singh Chair Professor.

  • Prof. S. N. Singh has become a Member of Board of Governors (BoG), IIT Kanpur from January 1, 2012 for two years.

  • Prof. S. C. Srivastava has been selected for Power Energy Society (PES) Outstanding Engineer Award 2012 by PES/IAS chapter, IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section.

  • Mr. Ranjith Nair, PhD student with Prof. Behera, has received 2nd Best Student paper award in ACODS 2012 at IISc Bangalore.

  • Raghvendra Kumar Chaudhary, PhD student under supervision of Drs. K. V. Srivastava and Animesh Biswas, has been awarded the Best Paper Award in session at 5th Antenna Test & Measurement Society (ATMS) conference, 2-3 Feb., 2012, Mumbai India.
