Swayam-NPTEL
Swayam-NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Education, jointly developed by seven IITs and IISc Bengaluru to expand access to high quality online education across India. The platform offers structured video courses across engineering, science, management, humanities, and other disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
MTC contributes to this initiative through the professional production and delivery of high quality educational video content, supporting the wider dissemination of academic knowledge through digital learning.
Swayam-NPTEL Online Certification Courses
Swayam-NPTEL offers a wide range of online certification courses designed to enhance the learning flexibility and academic depth for students across disciplines.
Duration: 4, 8 and 12 week long
Sessions: January–May and July–November
Enrollment Fee: ₹1000 Per Certification Exam
Certificate: Awarded for scoring 40%+ in assignments and the exam
Flagship Offerings of Swayam-NPTEL
Local Chapter
NPTEL has been offering self learning courses across engineering, science, humanities, and other disciplines for more than a decade. Since 2014, NPTEL has also offered online certification, providing learners with an opportunity to earn certificates through proctored examinations conducted in association with the IITs.
To expand the reach of NPTEL courses and encourage greater participation among students across higher education institutions, SWAYAM-NPTEL facilitates the establishment of Local Chapters in colleges and universities. Each Local Chapter is coordinated by a faculty member who serves as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC). The SPOC facilitates communication about NPTEL initiatives, supports student participation, and may identify mentors to guide learners, encourage timely assignment submission, and support them throughout their courses.
Local Chapters serve as an important link between NPTEL and participating institutions, helping students access structured online learning opportunities and engage more effectively with courses offered by leading academic institutions.
Swayam-NPTEL Pre-Doctoral Fellowship
The Swayam-NPTEL Pre-Doctoral Fellowship provides high performing NPTEL learners with an opportunity to gain advanced research exposure under the guidance of distinguished faculty members. Designed for learners with Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees who aspire to pursue research, the fellowship supports hands on research experience while providing a monthly fellowship of ₹25,000 plus HRA.
The programme serves as a bridge towards advanced academic and research pathways, helping learners strengthen their research skills and prepare for higher studies, including Master’s and PhD programmes.
Institutes of National Importance (INIs)
Institutes of National Importance (INI) are among India’s premier institutions of higher education and research, established through Acts of Parliament to support excellence in education, research, and professional development. These institutions contribute significantly to developing skilled professionals and advancing knowledge across diverse fields.
Through the Swayam-NPTEL platform, courses from select Institutes of National Importance are made accessible to learners across the country, covering a wide range of disciplines and areas of specialisation.
