About Us
The Media Technology Centre (MTC) at IIT Kanpur was established in 2005 to support the Institute’s vision of expanding access to quality education through innovative media and digital technologies. Since its inception, MTC has contributed to the development of educational video and audio content, covering academic programmes, courses, lectures, seminars, conferences, and institutional events.
In addition to course related content, the centre supports the creation of promotional videos, documentaries, institutional features, and other digital media initiatives that communicate IIT Kanpur’s academic, research, and institutional achievements.
MTC also contributes to the Ministry of Education’s flagship initiatives, Swayam Prabha and Swayam-NPTEL, supporting the development and delivery of educational content for learners across the country. Through these platforms, quality academic content from leading institutions is made accessible to learners through DTH television channels and online learning platforms, extending educational opportunities to diverse and remote communities.
Alongside its educational media initiatives, MTC serves as a creative space for documentaries, short films, digital campaigns, and multimedia productions that showcase the Institute’s research, innovation, people, and achievements. Through visual storytelling and media expertise, the Centre creates content that informs, engages, and communicates IIT Kanpur’s work to wider audiences.
The centre combines creative expertise with modern recording studios, professional production equipment, editing suites, and advanced digital media infrastructure to:
- Provide end to end production support, from concept development and scripting to filming, post production, animation, and final delivery.
- Collaborate with faculty, researchers, academic departments and external partners to create engaging multimedia content.
- Enhance accessibility, impact and inclusivity through innovative digital media solutions.
- Support the development of online courses, educational videos and research communication projects.
