
Mr. Jagjeet Singh Bindra instituted the Mr. & Mrs. Gian Singh Bindra Chair at IIT Kanpur, dedicated to the Department of Chemical Engineering.
Mr. Bindra is currently a member of the Board of Directors of HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd. Mr. Bindra spent 32 years with Chevron Corporation, beginning his career as a research engineer and later serving as President of Chevron Global Manufacturing from 2004 to 2009, where he led the company's worldwide manufacturing operations.
Following his retirement from Chevron, he served on the Boards of several leading global companies, including LyondellBasell Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Petroleum, Transfield Services Australia, Transocean, WorleyParsons Australia, GS Caltex Korea, and Edison International and Southern California Edison. After earning his B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, Mr. Bindra pursued a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Kanpur and the University of Washington College of Engineering.
Prof. Yogesh M. Joshi from the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, has research interests in rheology, colloidal glasses, and gels. He is a recipient of several prestigious honours, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Engineering Sciences, J.C. Bose Fellowship, DRDO Academy Excellence Award, DAE-SRC Outstanding Investigator Award, RPG Life Sciences M. M. Sharma Gold Medal, INSA Medal for Young Scientist, INAE Young Engineer Award, and the NASI-Scopus Young Scientist Award. He is also an elected Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), the Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS), and the Society of Rheology, USA. He received his undergraduate degree from Pune University and completed his Ph.D. from IIT Bombay.
Prof. V. Shankar, Department of Chemical Engineering, research areas are in the fields of fluid dynamics, rheology of complex fluids and interfacial phenomena. He specializes in the understanding, prediction and control of hydrodynamic instabilities that arise in the flow of simple and complex fluids, and in devising new strategies to manipulate instabilities towards many technological applications. Prof. Shankar is the recipient of IIChE Golden Jubilee Young Achiever Award (2007), INAE Young Engineer Award (2007), INSA Young Scientist Medal (2004). He earned his doctorate from IISc Bangalore in 2000.
