Prof. Prakash Panangaden (MSc5/PHY/1975), Professor Emeritus at McGill University and an esteemed alumnus of IIT Kanpur was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society, UK; one of the most prestigious recognitions in the world of science for his pioneering work spanning machine learning theory, quantum information, probabilistic models, and reinforcement learning.

Prof. Ashutosh Sharma was conferred with the Padma Shri 2025 for his distinguished service in the field of Nanosciences and Nanotechnology. Prof. Sharma, a visionary academician and alumnus of IITK (BT/CHE/1982), is the Institute Chair Professor & Founding Coordinator of DST Thematic Unit of Excellence on Soft Nanofabrication at IIT Kanpur since 2006.

Mr. Abhishek Anand (BS-MS/CHM/2022) Software Engineer at Manulife Japan was selected for the Japan National Cricket Team. Through sheer passion, relentless training, and stellar performances for the Tokyo Falcons Cricket Club, he has earned his spot in the Japanese squad for prestigious international tournaments including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and the EAP Regional Final .

IITK Distinguished Alumnus Dr. Pawan Goenka (BT/ME/1975) Chairman, Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization centre (IN-SPACe) received the prestigious Padma Shri 2025. His professional experience includes working at General Motors R&D Centre, Detroit, U.S.A., for 14 years and at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. for 28 years. At Mahindra he led the development of the Scorpio SUV and built a strong R&D infrastructure and a robust product portfolio. He retired from M&M as MD & CEO on April 1, 2021. His remarkable achievements in the Space and Automotive industries have been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri Award.

Mr. Devendra Kumar (BT/CSE/1997) was appointed as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Michael Baker International. In this strategic leadership role, Mr. Kumar will oversee the company’s IT vision, drive digital transformation, and lead the adoption of cutting-edge technologies - including generative AI - to support business growth. His mandate also includes strengthening data security and compliance across the organization.

Dr. Anil K Rajvanshi, Ph.D., a distinguished alumnus was honored with the Visionary Leadership Best Practices Recognition 2025 by the Frost & Sullivan Institute. Dr. Rajvanshi’s pioneering work in sustainable energy and rural development exemplifies the power of innovation in addressing critical global challenges. His efforts toward renewable energy adoption and environmental sustainability, especially in rural communities, reflect the true spirit of impactful leadership.

Mr. K. Ramakrishna Rao (BT/CHE/1987), 1991 batch IAS, took charge as the Chief Secretary of Telangana. He has served as Special Chief Secretary of Finance - where he skillfully prepared 14 state budgets, including two vote-on-account budgets. Mr. Rao brings unparalleled expertise and dedication to his new role. He will also continue to hold full additional charge as Special Chief Secretary of Finance, ensuring continuity in fiscal leadership.

Mr. Sandeep Fuller (BT/EE/1986), was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer – Systems and PMC at SYSTRA. Mr.Fuller’s leadership marks a significant milestone for SYSTRA’s vision in systems integration and project management consultancy. He has extensive experience with Indian Railways, followed by senior management roles at leading companies such as Larsen & Toubro, Texmaco Rail, and Titagarh Wagons.

Dr. Rakesh K. Jain (B.Tech/CHE/1972), Director of the Edwin L. Steele Laboratories for Tumor Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a Professor at Harvard Medical School, received the prestigious 2025 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Research. This is one of the most prestigious acknowledgements in Oncology. His research focuses on the tumor microenvironment, including the vasculature and matrix, and their roles in tumor growth and response to therapy, with the goal of developing novel strategies to manipulate the microenvironment and improve cancer detection, prevention, and treatment in humans.

Prof. Pankaj Jalote (BT/EE/1980) was honored with the 2025 Distinguished Academic Achievement Alumni Award by the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Prof. Jalote is a renowned academician and researcher and has made significant contributions to the field of computer science and higher education.

Dr. Raj Singh (BT/MME/1967), Regents Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Oklahoma State University, was honored with the university's prestigious Eminent Faculty Award.

Mr. Sanjay Malhotra (BT/CSE/1989), was appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), with a tenure of three years. He is a 1990-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre.

Dr. Nilesh Pandey (PhD/EE/2022) was awarded the prestigious IEEE-EDS 2024 Early Career Award. This honor is given to recognize, promote, and support outstanding technical development in the field of Electron Devices Society, specifically for early-career researchers. Each year, only 2-3 exceptional researchers from around the world are selected for this prestigious recognition. Dr. Pandey is currently Postdoctoral Fellow at The University of Texas at Austin.

Prof. Sandhya S. Visweswariah (MSC2/CHM/1980), esteemed alumnus of IIT Kanpur became the President-elect of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) at the 26th Ordinary General Assembly. Prof. Visweswariah obtained her bachelor's degree in Botany from the Osmania University, Hyderabad, in 1977 following which she joined IIT Kanpur to pursue her master's in Chemistry.

IITK alumnus and IndiGo co-founder Mr. Rakesh Gangwal (BT/ME/1975) has been appointed as the Chairman of American carrier Southwest Airlines. After completing his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1975, Mr. Gangwal also earned an MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

IITK Young Alumnus Awardee, Dr. Mohit Kumar Jolly received the prestigious Arthur T. Winfree Prize 2024. This Prize honors a theoretician whose research has inspired significant new biology. Dr. Jolly, an Associate Professor at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), works in the areas of integrating systems-level computational and experimental approaches to elucidate the principles of cancer progression.

Mr. Atul Saxena was appointed as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd. He brings over 25 years of extensive experience in management & technical consulting, corporate finance and capital markets. During his distinguished career at IFCI Ltd., he played a pivotal role in the company's strategic and operational endeavors for more than a decade.

Dr. Rahul Mangal was selected as a Member of The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI). He currently serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. Prof. Mangal completed his B.Tech and M.Tech From IIT Kanpur before earning a PhD from Cornell University and pursuing postdoctoral research at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He has received several prestigious recognitions, including the Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship (2024), INSA Associate Fellowship (2023), INAE Young Engineer Award (2020), and Ramanujan Fellowship (2017).

Dr Digendranath Swain, IITK alumnus, gets awarded the prestigious Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2024 under the category Space Science and Technology by the Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. He currently works as a scientist at Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, ISRO, in Kerala.

Mr. Rahul Navin (BT/MT/CE/1990/1993), an esteemed alumnus of IIT Kanpur was appointed Director Enforcement Directorate, GOI.

Prof. Rajeev Alur was awarded the prestigious Kunuth Prize 2024. He has been awarded for his outstanding contributions to the foundations of computer science for his introduction of novel models of computation. Prof. Alur is the Zisman Family Professor at the Department of Computer and Information Science, University of Pennsylvania.

A venture capitalist and serial entrepreneur, Mr. Anil Kejriwal passed away. He launched his first start-up - Technocrats Paperchem, manufacturing paper chemicals in 1975 at Jamshedpur. In the year 1981, he founded Ramtech, which went on to become one of the leading global companies in personal computers.

Prof. Asangram Mudali was the Director of the National Institute of Science & Technology. A philanthropist, he was actively involved in providing education to the poor in the State of Odisha. After completing his bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from IITK, he went on to receive his master's degree from University of Houston, USA, in 1987.

Dr. Vikram Narasimhan (MSc5/CHM/1984), Dr. Nalini Murdter (MSc5/CHM/1979) and Dr. Nandini Narayan established Prof. P.T. Narasimhan Fund for Classical Arts. Prof.Narasimhan was a highly distinguished scientist and founding faculty of IIT Kanpur's Chemistry Department.

Dr. Debanjan Chowdhury was honored with endowed professorships of Joyce A. Yelencsics Rosevear '65 and Frederick M. Rosevear '64. Dr. Chowdhury, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, Cornell University and works in theoretical condensed matter.

Dr. Pravesh K. Kothari received the Presburger Award for contributions to theoretical computer science. Dr. Kothari, Assistant Professor at Princeton University,designs efficient algorithms for average-case Computational problems arising in theoretical computer science and related fields, like statistics.

Dr, Ajay Kumer (BT/EE/1984) has been appointed as the Director on Board of Sify Technologies. An Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1985 batch, Dr. Kumar last served as the Defense Secretary for the Government of India and has deep expertise in the technology and #policy domains.

Prof. Arvind Mithal (BT/EE/1969) passed away at the age of 77. He was Charles W. and Jennifer C. Johnson Professor in Computer Science and Engineering at MIT, head of the faculty of computer science in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), and a pillar of the MIT community.

Mr. Rahul Garg (BT/EE/2001) established the DRG All-Rounder Award for B.Tech. students at the institute in memory of his late grandfather, Shri Deshraj Garg. Prof. Raj Singh (BT/MME/1967) was elected as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow. He has been honored for pioneering and game-changing scientific and technological contributions.

Mr. Sanjiv Puri (BT/ME/1985) was appointed as the President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2024-25. He is the Chairman & MD, heads ITC Ltd, a conglomerate with businesses in FMCG, hotels, paperboards & packaging, agribusiness, and IT.

Prof. Ashvin Vishwanath got elected to the National Academy of Sciences, USA. Prof. Vishwanath, George Leverett Professor of Physics at Harvard University, is a Theoretical Physicist specializing in the study of Condensed Matter.

Prof. Senthil Todadri got elected to the National Academy of Sciences, USA. Prof. Todadri, Department of Physics at MIT, works in the areas of novel phases and phase transitions of quantum matter.

Mr. Prakhar Bansal (BT/CHE/1994) and Mrs. Nidhi Bansal established Prof. J.L. Bansal Best PhD Thesis Award in Mathematics & Statistics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. This award honors the exemplary contributions of Mr. Bansal's father, Prof. J.L. Bansal, to the field of mathematics and his distinguished career in academia.

IITK alumnus, Aditya Srivastava (BT/MT/EE/2018/2019) topped UPSC 2023 with AIR #1. He graduated in Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering from the institute in 2018 and M.Tech in 2019 respectively.

Mr. Sandeep Kishore Jain (BT/ME/1988) was appointed as the President of the Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME). Mr. Jain, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, started his career with TVS Electronics & Tata Unisys and later set up SOLO Components Pvt Ltd, based in Gurgaon in 1991.

Mr. Ranjit Shahani, former Managing Director and Vice Chairman at Novartis India Ltd. Mr. Shahani, an alumnus of IITK was a distinguished figure in the realms of industry, commerce, and pharmaceuticals. His influence in India's pharmaceutical and healthcare domains was profound, marked by his leadership across diverse organizations.

Dr. Raj N. Singh (BT/MSE/1967) got selected as the Member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). He is currently Regents Professor, Williams Companies Distinguished Chair Professor, Director Energy Technologies Programs and Head of School of Materials Science and Engineering at Oklahoma State University (OSU).

Mr. Rama Krishna Mendu (BT/MT/2018/2019) and Mr. Chirag Jain (MS/AE/2020) got featured in Forbes 30 under 30 list 2024. They co-founded Endure Air systems in 2019 that provides world class aerial robotic solutions suited for the Indian market.

Mr. Naveen Tewari received the Uttar Pradesh Gaurav Samman by Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Yogi Adityanath for elevating the Indian startup sector to global prominence. The award recognizes Mr. Tewari's exceptional entrepreneurial vision and outstanding achievements as a tech entrepreneur acknowledges the role he has played in putting the Indian start-up sector on the global map.

Ms. Vartika Shukla, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur gets featured in 'The She List' of Top 100 Women of India in the Special Issue of India Today. She is currently serving as the Chairman and MD of Engineers India Limited. This 48th Anniversary Special features women achievers across the domains of politics, business, science, arts, entertainment, sports, education, law and defense.

Mr. Srikant Sastri, an alumnus of IITK got appointed as the Chairperson of the Geospatial Data Promotion & Development Committee. He currently serves as the Chairman of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park; Director of Foundation for Innovation.

Mr. Ashish Karandikar (BT/EE/1995), currently serving as the Vice President of Engineering at NVIDIA, USA, donated generously to his alma mater to establish three endowed programs at the Department of Electrical Engineering. This generous contribution will pave the way for newer avenues of growth for our faculty, researchers, and students of the Electrical Engineering Department alike.

Prof. Rajendra Bordia was appointed as the President of the American Ceramic Society,organization that supports leading scientists, engineers, and educators from around the world in the discovery, manufacturing, and use of advanced ceramics and glasses. He will hold the presidency for one year.

Prof. Keshav Pingali received the ACM-IEEE CS Ken Kennedy Award. The Ken Kennedy Award recognizes groundbreaking achievements in parallel and high-performance computing. Prof. Pingali, faculty at Department of Computer Science, University of Texas, Austin, is a W.A."Tex" Moncrief Chair of Grid and Distributed Computing.

Mr. Vijay Parthasarthy, an alumnus of IITK, launched his book, The Golden Ladder on 8th Aug. 2023 in IIT Kanpur.It is a self-help book that teaches readers how to achieve success in business and in life. The book also includes a number of case studies of successful businesses and individuals who have used the principles of the Golden Ladder to achieve their goals.
