Internship and Sponsored M.Tech. Program Opportunity for Students from Ladakh at IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi & IIT Bombay

Online Applications are invited to the following programs for the Academic Session 2024-25 from students belonging to Ladakh in the areas of Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Energy Engineering, and related disciplines.

1. Sponsored M.Tech. Programs (2 years duration)
2. Short-Term Internship (1.5 – 2 months duration)
3. Long Term Internship ( 6 months duration)

There are a total of 30 seats available at the three IITs for short-term internships, 15 seats for long-term internships, and 12 seats for M. Tech programs. The seats are equally divided amongst all IITs.

Students for short-term internships would be selected based on their application. However, for the long-term internship and M. Tech, the selection would be based on application as well as an online interview.

The students selected for the short-term and long-term internships would be paid consolidated scholarships of Rs. 15000 and Rs. 50000 respectively. The students selected for the M. Tech programs would be paid a scholarship of Rs 25,000 per month.

The last date to apply for the M.Tech. program is May 31st, 2024.

The last date to apply for the Internship program is May 15th, 2024.

Note: No application fee is applicable for applying to any of the above courses.

Note 2: All selected M.Tech. candidates must execute a compulsory Service Bond to serve in the UT of Ladakh, for a prescribed period of 03 years immediately after the completion of the course. (Link for Notification & Compulsory Service Bond Format)

1.1 Educational Qualifications for Admission to M.Tech.

Students from Ladakh who are eligible to apply can be:
Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in engineering (4-year B. Tech. / B. E.), or sciences (2-year M. Sc., after B.Sc.) in any institution in UT Ladakh, or are within the final 1 month of graduation

OR

Students whose permanent residence is in UT Ladakh, and who have completed an undergraduate degree in engineering (4-year B. Tech. / B. E.), or sciences (2-year M. Sc., after B. Sc.) in any institution in or outside Ladakh, or are within final 1 month of graduation. Students will be enrolled like Sponsored students in IIT and hence GATE is not a requirement.

Sponsorship Certificate will be provided by the Government of UT Ladakh.

1.2 General Eligibility for Admission to M.Tech. Program:

The suggested cut-off is 60% or 6.00 cumulative GPA at the end of 2nd or 3rd year, with 5% relaxation for SC/ST/PwD candidates. However, depending on the number of applications received, a higher cut-off could also be decided.

1.3 Admission Procedure:

Applications would be done online on the portal.
All eligible applications will be reviewed based on the eligibility criteria mentioned in the advertisement. Shortlisting of the candidates will be based on marks/grades scored, past projects/internship / extra-curricular/entrepreneurial activities. All shortlisted applicants will be called for an interview (on or off-line), and their performance in the interview shall also form the basis of the final selection.

2.1 Educational Qualifications for Admission to Short-Term Internship

Students from Ladakh who are eligible to apply may have completed or currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in sciences, engineering, and entrepreneurship in any institution. Typically may be students who have completed 2nd year, 3rd or 4th year, or have completed their 4-year UG degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects.

2.2 General Eligibility for Admission to Short-Term Internship Program.

The suggested cut-off is 60% or 6.00 cumulative GPA at the end of 2nd or 3rd year, or on graduation, with 5% relaxation for SC/ST/PwD candidates. However, depending on the number of applications received, a higher cut-off could also be decided. Students who are eligible to apply should be:

i. Currently enrolled in any UG program in STEM departments in any college in UT Ladakh, or pursuing or completing a Diploma from Polytechnic College in Ladakh.

OR

ii. Any student whose permanent residence is in UT Ladakh, currently enrolled, or completed any UG program in STEM departments in any college elsewhere.

Students must produce proof of current enrollment (NOC from parent institution), or final degree/degree completion certificate, along with proof of permanent residence in Ladakh (as relevant - Aadhar Card / Passport / PAN Card / Voter’s ID Card / Driving License / Any other government document that certifies permanent residence in UT Ladakh).

2.3 Admission Procedure:

Applications would be done online on the portal.
All eligible applications will be reviewed based on the eligibility criteria mentioned in the advertisement. Selection would involve shortlisting based on marks/grades scored, past projects/internship / extra-curricular/entrepreneurial activities.
All received applications will be reviewed thoroughly for making a final selection. No interviews are to be conducted for the short-term Internship program.

Each student is charged Rs. 1,000 for the program, payable before admission.

3.1 Educational Qualifications for Admission to Long-Term Internship

Students from Ladakh who are eligible to apply may have completed or currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in sciences, engineering, and entrepreneurship in any institution. Typically may be students who have completed 2nd year, 3rd or 4th year, or have completed their 4-year UG degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects.

3.2 General Eligibility for Admission to Long-Term Internship Program

The suggested cut-off is 60% or 6.00 cumulative GPA at the end of 2nd or 3rd year, or on graduation, with 5% relaxation for SC/ST/PwD candidates. However, depending on the number of applications received, a higher cut-off could also be decided. Students who are eligible to apply should be :

i. Currently enrolled in any UG program in STEM departments in any college in UT Ladakh, or pursuing or completing a Diploma from Polytechnic College in Ladakh.
