Zakir Hossain

Ph.D. (TIFR 1997) PROFESSOR

Dr. Zakir Hossain is an experimental condensed matter physicist with interest in crystal growth and low temperature properties of strongly correlated electron systems. He is particularly interested in Kondo effect, heavy fermion, valence fluctuation, superconductivity, magnetic order, interplay between superconductivity and magnetism, magnetic refrigeration, spintronics. He did his Ph.D. in physics from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (T.I.F.R), Mumbai; he is a co-discoverer of superconductivity in quaternary borocarbide by the T.I.F.R. group in 1994. He worked as a JSPS fellow at Hiroshima university, Japan (March 1998- April 1999) and postdoctoral fellow at Max-Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Dresden, Germany (May 1999- April 2004) before joining IITK in April 2004.
