We are a premier Physics Department of India engaged in research and teaching in the frontier areas of experimental and theoretical Biological Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, High Energy Physics, Cosmology and String Theory, Lasers and Quantum Optics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Nuclear Physics, Quantum Computation and Statistical Physics.

Excellence in research and teaching has been the hallmark of our Department ever since its inception. Apart from research in the frontier areas of Physics, the Department has, over the years, produced physicists of the highest calibre who have made fundamental contributions to the subject.
