Ph.D. (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, 2009) ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Dr. Amit Agarwal is a theoretical condensed matter physicist working on quantum many body effects and transport properties of low dimensional quantum systems. He did his his Ph.D in 2009 from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore (India), working  with Prof. Diptiman Sen on 'Transport properties of quasi-one-dimensional quantum systems'. His thesis was awarded the Kumari L. A. Meera Memorial Medal (theoretical physics) for the best Ph.D thesis in IISc. Subsequently he worked as a Marie Curie postdoctoral researcher at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa (Italy) with Prof. Rosario Fazio and Dr. Marco Polini, investigating  ‘many body physics of spin-orbit coupled systems’ .

He joined the department in 2012 and has been awarded the Inspire faculty fellowship in 2012. He is currently studying quantum many body effects in low dimensional systems (2D electron gases with spin-orbit coupling, graphene, 1D luttinger liquid wires etc.) and transport properties of hybrid structures (topological insulators, superconducting Josephson junctions etc. ).
