UG/ PG AdmissionThe Department of Mathematics and Statistics at IIT Kanpur offers BS-MS and M.Sc programmes in Mathematics and Statistics. Admission to the BS/BS-MS programme is through the Joint Entrance Examination. The performance of a candidate in this examination will form the basis for admission to the Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programs (entry at the 10+2 level). The Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) is conducted for admission to M.Sc. (Four Semesters) at IITs. Admission to the M.Sc(Mathematics) and M.Sc(Statistics) programme are purely based on the performance in JAM. Ph.D. Admissions: Academic Session 2017 – 18 (Semester- II)The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at IIT Kanpur offers separate Ph.D. programs in Mathematics and Statistics. The Ph.D programme at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics has evolved over the years into an extensive 5-year training and research programme. Applications from candidates with a Master's degree and any of the national-level Ph.D fellowships like, INSPIRE, CSIR-NET, GATE, NBHM, PMRF, etc. are accepted. Eligible applicant's are then called for a written exam based on basic topics taught at the Master's level across various universities and colleges in India. The students who do well in the written test are then shortlisted for an interview to assess their subjective background and maturity to undertake research.
