M.Tech and Ph.D, Chemical Engineering, IIT Kanpur

   

Who can apply ?

  • Students with B.Tech/B.E degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Biochemical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering and other allied branches of Chemical Engineernig with a valid GATE score in Chemical Engineering can apply for our M.Tech program.

  • Selection to our M.Tech program will be based on GATE score and previous academic record of the applicant. There will be no written test or interview for M.Tech admissions.

  • Students with B.Tech degree from any of the IITs with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 are exempted from the GATE score requirement, and may apply directly for our M.Tech program.

Financial Assistance

  • GATE-qualified M.Tech students will receive a monthly financial assistance of Rs. 8000/- from the Institute.

Exciting Opportunities for doing PhD in Chemical Engineering at IIT Kanpur!!

  • Students with B.Tech/B.E degree in Engineering with a valid GATE score and good academic record (75 percent marks/7.5 CGPI) can directly apply for our PhD program.

  • An applicant from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institutes) with CPI of at least 7.0 in his/her B.Tech 8th semester may apply but must have CPI of 7.5 at the time of admission. No GATE score requirement for these applicants.

  • Students with M.Sc (Chemistry/Physics/Maths) with excellent academic record and with a valid GATE or NET score can directly apply for our PhD program. M.Sc students must also have done courses in mathematics at the B.Sc level. The applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

    • A minimum of 65 percentage marks or 6.5 CPI in the Master's degree.

    • First division in the bachelor's degree.

    • JRF/95 percentile or higher in GATE exam.

  • Students with M.E/M.Tech degree in Engineering can directly apply for our PhD program.

  • Students with outstanding academic record can apply any time of the year, through our rolling admissions.

Selection Procedure for PhD Program:

  • There will be a written exam in the fundamentals of Chemical Engineering (at the B.Tech level) as well as basic mathematics, physics, and chemistry (at the UG level). The written test will be followed by an interview in the same day or the next day.

    Entrance Test :

    Thursday, May 1, 2014 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

    Interview :

    Thursday, May 1, 2014, 2:00 PM Onwards and will continue on Friday, May 2, 2014.

    Students are advised to plan to be at IIT Kanpur on both May 1 and 2, 2014

  • Carry out cutting-edge research of high-quality in modern areas of chemical engineering and related inter-disciplinary areas like nano-science and technology, biosciences, materials science, energy and environment, soft matter physics, molecular simulations etc., and also in traditional areas of chemical engineering such as membrane separations, process design and control, heterogeneous catalysis and kinetics etc.

  • Get exposed to the best experimental and computational facilities in their respective areas of research.

  • Publish papers in high-impact, peer-reviewed international journals.

Financial Assitance:

  • Upon admission students with M.Tech./M.E. in the Ph.D. program of Chemical Engineering are supported by assistantship (@ Rs 18000/- per month for first two years and Rs. 20000/- per month upto 3 years) from the Institute.

  • Upon admission students with B.Tech/M.Sc in the Ph.D. program of Chemical Engineering are supported by assistantship (Rs 16000/- per month for first two years and Rs. 18000/- per month for later 3 years) from the Institute.
