Multi-disciplinary Approach

Design Programme aspires to develop and provide innovative solutions towards the betterment of society. The methodology adopted to achieve this aim involves encouraging creative minds to think out-of-the-box and synthesize varied knowledge domains. In its short history, Design Programme at IIT Kanpur has come to be known for its broad-minded philosophy and multi-disciplinary approach.

The environment encourages interactivity among students, faculty and industry. The curriculum lays emphasis on functional as well as aesthetic aspects of design. Students are sensitized to human factors of design, be it a consumer product or a software interface. Every design project involves research on ergonomic aspects and understanding the user's needs and desires. Backed by state-of-the-art infrastructure, students are given freedom and encouragement to explore virtually any creative field of their interest.
