Prof. Rahul Mangal

Prof. Mangal completed his B.Tech-M.Tech (Dual Degree) in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 2010. He subsequently earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, USA, in 2016. Following his doctoral studies, he carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Wisconsin Madison, USA.

Profile

Before pursuing his Ph.D., Prof. Mangal worked as a Manager at Reliance Industries Limited from 2010 to 2012. During his graduate studies, he also served as a Graduate Research Assistant at Cornell University from 2012 to 2016. He joined IIT Kanpur as an Assistant Professor in 2017 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. In addition, he served as a Visiting Associate Professor at Cornell University during 2024 - 2025.

Prof. Mangal has received several prestigious recognitions for his academic and research contributions. In 2024, he was inducted as a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), and was awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Professional Excellence Fellowship. In 2023, he was inducted as an Associate Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and received the Excellence in Teaching Award from IIT Kanpur. The same year, he was recognized as an Emerging Young Investigator by Soft Matter (RSC Publications). In 2022, he was invited to contribute to the Emerging Investigator Series of Molecular Systems Design & Engineering. Earlier in his career, he received the Class of 1979 Young Faculty Fellowship in 2021 and was inducted as an INAE Young Associate in 2020.
