Dr. Rema Padman is Trustees Professor of Management Science and Healthcare Informatics in the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. She is also Thrust Leader of Healthcare Informatics Research at iLab and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
She received B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India, M.S in Operations Research from the University of Texas, Dallas, Ph.D in Operations Research from the University of Texas at Austin and National Library of Medicine Senior Fellowship (Individual National Research Service Award) in Applied Informatics from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
Dr. Padman's research investigates healthcare analytics, informatics, operations and processes for data-driven decision support in the context of clinical and consumer-facing information technology interventions in healthcare delivery and management. Her recent focus on Artificial Intelligence for Health Literacy develops and evaluates digital therapeuticapproaches for health literacy for adults and children globally.She has trained over 30 PhD students and postdoctoral scholars, authored over 300 papers and adviseshealthcare informatics and analytics projects for provider, payer, pharmaceutical,
consulting,foundations and nonprofit organizations.
She has received numerous awards for research and teaching, including the inaugural Bufalini Prize for AI in Medicine in 2023, named after one of the most influential 19th century clinicians in Italy, and the 2022 Transformational Solutions - New Frontiers Award, a World Bank Group Transformational Business Award, for the Digital Vaccine project. She has been recognized as one of the top women in MedTech and nominated for the Most Influential Women in Health IT Award. She is an elected Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association.
