This lecture series was instituted by the Batch of 1982 in memory of their batchmate, Mr. Ranjan Kumar, who passed away at a young age. Mr. Kumar was an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and graduated with a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering in 1986. He was an entrepreneur who founded Cygnus Soft, a software company headquartered in Pune, India.
Mr Ashish Gupta gave insight on taking calculated risks- to know the difference between what to do and how to do. He received his B.Tech PhD. in Computer Science from Stanford University. He is now the co-founder of Helion Ventures Partners and Junglee.
Risk lies not in what one does, but rather how one does and what back-ups one has. He also mentioned what it takes to stay away from the herd, the need of an urge within oneself to mark his / her footprints on the stands of time. Everything in life, like what career we choose, what friend we find, what we do in the moment, what we plan to do tomorrow or who we choose to live with, should be subjected to WHY, WHAT and HOW!
