Accommodation

Registration fee does not include accommodation. A limited number of shared double rooms are available for non-student participants at Visitor Hostel (IITK) on campus. Students would be accommodated in the hostels. Accommodation is on 'first-come first-served' basis. Room allocation will be indicated on the WiSSAP web page at  end of December 2008.

Academic/Faculty/Industry delegates:- (Rs. 225/- per person per day on double-occupancy basis in the Guest House. Payment to be made at the Guest House).

** Very limited Hostel-like accommodation may be available for Non-students, which is cheaper than the Guest House. Please contact us immediately after registration and we will let you know if it is available.

Student :- (Rs. 85/- per person per day in Hostel. Payment to be made along with registration fee)

In winter, the temperature can range 6°C-10°C. Therefore, it is adviced to bring woolen clothes.

How to reach IIT Kanpur

Reaching Kanpur

Nearest international airport is Delhi (DEL). Nearest airport is Lucknow (LKO), which is 100 km or about 2-2.5 hours drive from the IIT campus. It is only an hour-long flight from Delhi to Lucknow.  There is a transfer facility available from the international to the domestic airport at Delhi. At Lucknow airport, there will be pick-up vehicles from the campus.

Airlines that fly to Lucknow are Jet Air (www.jetairways.com), JetLite (www.jetlite.com), Indian (www.indian-airlines.nic.in) and Air India (www.airindia.com). All airlines together, there are about 7-9 flights per day depending on the day of the week. 

It is advisable to keep a gap of at least 3 hours between the international and domestic flights.

Nearest railway station is Kanpur Central (CNB) which is 16 km or about 30-45 minutes drive from the campus.  All information about trains is available at www.indianrail.gov.in.  Tickets can be purchased (at most 2 months in advance) using credit card at www.irctc.co.in.

A good option in the morning from New Delhi (NDLS) railway station to Kanpur, is to take the 2004 LKO Swran Shatabdi leaving at  06:15, and arriving at 11:20. For an overnight train, the best option is 2452 Shram Shkti Exp leaving at 23:35 and arriving at 06:00.

The campus is located on the Delhi-Kolkata Grand Trunk Road, about 16 Kms from Kanpur Central Railway Station.

Taxis are easily available from the Cantt side of the Kanpur Central Railway Station (from Platform number 1 side). There is a pre-paid auto and taxi booth. The rates are Rs. 180 for a taxi, and Rs. 100 for an auto. Sometimes you may be able to negotiate a few rupees less with the driver, if you don't go to the pre-paid booth.
