    Basketball

Basketball is the fastest game on the planet. Apart from speed and skill, the nature of the sport demands a person who is tough and ready to give his sweat and blood on the court. However, contrary to popular perception, basketball is not limited to the big hunks. It’s a game of speed, and all it needs is someone who can fly.

Although it provides ample opportunity for showcasing individual abilities, at its heart basketball is a team game. Basketball looks most beautiful when instead of seeing five individuals on a team, one sees a machine made up of five components designed to deliver the knock-out punch. A set of five well-coordinated players can do much more damage than a team with two or three extraordinary players. Here there are no defenders and no strikers. Everyone in the team has to be good everything.

Here are thoughts of some “prominent” cagers about the game:

When it's played the way its supposed to be played, basketball happens in the air: flying, floating, elevated above the floor, levitating the way oppressed peoples of this earth imagine themselves in their dreams.                                    - John Edgar Wideman

This is the second most exciting indoor sport, and the other one shouldn't have spectators.
- Dick Vertleib

The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play "Drop the Handkerchief."
