ABSTRACT

The decision(s) in refining business are complex, due to large no of variables and their interlinkage. Besides, the refining business itself has become more complex with the passage of time. There have been constant efforts to develop simulation and optimisation models to support business decisions, which originally catered to technical requirements like design, troubleshooting etc. The presentation covers the major elements of refining business and their relationship and various types of simulation and optimisation needs to take right decision and maximise profit.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mr. Devendra Jha received his B Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1982, his MBA in Petroleum Management in 1997 from the Indian Oil Institute of Petroleum Management. He started his career as Graduate Engineering Trainee in IOC at Barauni refinery. He subsequently worked in Manufacturing, Technical Services, Design and Project,  in various capacities at different locations of IOC. He has also worked as a member of UOP technical back-up team at Port Harcourt refinery in Nigeria for one year. He then switched over to Reliance Petroleum in 1999, prior to startup, in the Economics, Planning and Scheduling Dept of Jamnagar refinery. Currently he heads this department, which caters to the business needs.
