ABSTRACT

The integrated set of activities ranging from raw material acquisition, to production and final delivery is commonly referred to as Supply Chain Management. Internationally, with growing competition and business trends such as globalization, single sourcing, outsourcing, and centralized distribution, supply chain networks are increasingly becoming more complex. The ability to control the supply chain is therefore considered at least as important as controlling the production process. Supply chains are complex systems comprising of distributed, dynamic, disparate elements; with hybrid discrete and continuous characteristics; and multi time-scale dynamics ranging from seconds and minutes to months and years. In this seminar, I will present an overview of our research in this area.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Rajagopalan Srinivasan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He is concurrently a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Chemical & Engineering Sciences, where he leads the Process Systems & Control team. Raj received his B.Tech from IIT Madras in 1993 and his PhD from Purdue University in 1998, both in Chemical Engineering. He worked as a research associate in Honeywell Technology Center, Minneapolis, before joining NUS. Raj's research program is targeted towards developing artificial intelligence and systems engineering approaches for benign process design, agile process control and enterprise optimization.
