2025
IIT Kanpur's Space Technology Cell (STC) successfully organized the "25th Annual Joint Policy Committee (JPC) meeting" on February 5, 2025, at the Outreach Centre, IIT Kanpur. The meeting was conducted in a hybrid mode, with participation both online and offline.
Dr. Brij Bhushan, Deputy Director chaired the meeting on behalf of the Director, IIT Kanpur, while Shri Sumitesh Sarkar served as the Co-Chairman, ISRO. Senior faculty members from IIT Kanpur — Dr. Tarun Gupta, Dean of Research and Development (DoRD); Dr. Bishakh Bhattacharya; Dr. G. M. Kamath; Dr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan; and Dr. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava — attended the meeting in person.
Representing ISRO, Shri R. V. Nadagouda (URSC), Dr. J. Krishna Kishore (URSC, Bengaluru), and Smt. Nirupama Tiwari (ISRO HQ, Bengaluru) were present physically. Additionally, numerous scientists from various ISRO centers joined the proceedings online, contributing actively to the discussions.
The meeting witnessed productive deliberations aimed at strengthening collaborative research initiatives between IIT Kanpur and ISRO under the Space Technology Cell framework.
2024
The 24th Annual Joint Policy Committee (JPC) meeting of the Space Technology Cell (STC), IIT Kanpur, was held on March 12, 2024, in hybrid mode. Chaired by Dr. S. Ganesh, Officiating Director, IIT Kanpur, and co-chaired by Shri Sumitesh Sarkar from ISRO, the meeting highlighted the launch of IITK’s new Department of Space, Planetary & Astronomical Sciences & Engineering (SPASE) and the strengthened collaboration with ISRO. Senior ISRO officials emphasized timely project completion, achieving higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), and enhancing skill development. Discussions also focused on promoting new technologies, especially in Space Robotics, and leveraging industry-academia partnerships. The meeting reflected a strong commitment to advancing space research and innovation through collaborative efforts.

Representing ISRO, Shri N Sudheer Kumar, Director, CBPO, ISRO, HQ, Dr. V. Ashok, (VSSC), Shri R. V. Nadagouda (URSC), Shri Muthuchezhian S(SHAR), Shri Raghavendra M R(ISTRAC) and Dr. M. A. Paul (ISRO HQ, Bengaluru) were present physically.
The principal investigators of both ongoing and newly submitted proposals presented their project updates during the meeting. Scientists from various ISRO centers also joined the session virtually and actively contributed to the discussions, further enriching the collaborative efforts between ISRO and IIT Kanpur.
2023
The Space Technology Cell (STC) at IIT Kanpur organized The 23rd Interim Joint Policy Committee (JPC) meeting on June 15, 2023. The meeting was conducted via video conferencing. Shri Sumitesh Sarkar attended as the Co-Chair from ISRO. From IIT Kanpur, Dr. A. R. Harish, Dean of Research and Development (DoRD), along with Dr. Bishakh Bhattacharya and Dr. G. M. Kamath, joined the meeting.
The principal investigators of ongoing projects presented the closing reports of their respective projects.
The 22nd Annual Joint Policy Committee (JPC) meeting of the Space Technology Cell (STC) at IIT Kanpur was held on February 15, 2023, via video conferencing. The meeting was chaired by Dr. S. Ganesh, Deputy Director of IIT Kanpur, with Shri Sumitesh Sarkar, SAC, ISRO, as Co-Chair from ISRO. Dr. Ganesh highlighted the strong partnership between IIT Kanpur and ISRO, encouraging faculty members to collaborate with ISRO on scaling up their research contributions and developing new products for space applications. Shri Sumitesh Sarkar emphasized the need for IIT Kanpur faculty to actively engage in critical ISRO projects such as Gaganyaan and quantum technology initiatives.
The principal investigators of ongoing projects presented their project progress, while the principal investigators of newly submitted proposals shared their proposals with the JPC members. Scientists from various ISRO centers also joined the session virtually and actively contributed to the discussions, further enriching the collaborative efforts between ISRO and IIT Kanpur.
2021
Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, organized the Annual SAC-STC Review 2021 through Video Conferencing from 22nd November to 3rd December 2021. Principal Investigators from IIT Kanpur represented the ongoing progress of projects.
STC IIT Kanpur organized The 21th Annual JPC Meeting 2021 on November 16 2021 through Video Conferencing to review STC Projects. JPC Members form IIT Kanpur and ISRO with Respond Coordinator from SAC, VSSC, SHAR, SCL, PRL, URSC and LPSC attended the meeting through Video Conferencing.
2020
Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, organized the Annual SAC-STC Review 2019 through Video Conferencing from 01 to 05 December 2020. Principal Investigators from IIT Kanpur represented the ongoing progress of projects.
STC IIT Kanpur organized the Annual JPC Meeting 2020 on November 11 2020 through Video Conferencing to review STC Projects. JPC Members form IIT Kanpur and ISRO with Respond Coordinator from SAC, VSSC, SHAR,SCL and LPSC attended the meeting through Video Conferencing.
2019
STC IIT Kanpur organized the Annual JPC Meeting 2019 on 13-14 December 2019 at IIT, Kanpur. JPC Members and the Respond Coordinator from SAC, VSSC, and LPSC attended the meeting.
Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, organized the Annual SAC-STC Review 2019 from 2 to 4 December 2019 at SAC, Ahmedabad. Principal Investigators from IIT Kanpur represented the ongoing progress of projects.
IIT Kanpur celebrated National Technology Day 2019 with a thematic program titled "Space Technologies and ISRO" organized by Space Technology Cell, IITK. A couple of popular talks were delivered by scientists from the ISRO. In keeping with this theme, STC invited two well-known scientists in the field of space technology for presentation. The first talk was delivered by Dr. B.S Munjal, Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO. Dr. Munjal spoke on "Technology Applications in Space/Ground Segment of SATCOM Domain". This was followed by a talk by Dr. Mehul R Pandya, SAC, ISRO, who spoke on "Eye in Space for Earth and Planetary Observations". It was followed by the demonstration/display of technologies developed at IIT Kanpur. A group of school children from the city participated in the event.
