IIT Kanpur's Space Technology Cell (STC) successfully organized the "25th Annual Joint Policy Committee (JPC) meeting" on February 5, 2025, at the Outreach Centre, IIT Kanpur. The meeting was conducted in a hybrid mode, with participation both online and offline.
Dr. Brij Bhushan, Deputy Director chaired the meeting on behalf of the Director, IIT Kanpur, while Shri Sumitesh Sarkar served as the Co-Chairman, ISRO. Senior faculty members from IIT Kanpur — Dr. Tarun Gupta, Dean of Research and Development (DoRD); Dr. Bishakh Bhattacharya; Dr. G. M. Kamath; Dr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan; and Dr. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava — attended the meeting in person.
Representing ISRO, Shri R. V. Nadagouda (URSC), Dr. J. Krishna Kishore (URSC, Bengaluru), and Smt. Nirupama Tiwari (ISRO HQ, Bengaluru) were present physically. Additionally, numerous scientists from various ISRO centers joined the proceedings online, contributing actively to the discussions.
The meeting witnessed productive deliberations aimed at strengthening collaborative research initiatives between IIT Kanpur and ISRO under the Space Technology Cell framework.
The 24th Annual Joint Policy Committee (JPC) meeting of the Space Technology Cell (STC), IIT Kanpur, was held on March 12, 2024, in hybrid mode. Chaired by Dr. S. Ganesh, Officiating Director, IIT Kanpur, and co-chaired by Shri Sumitesh Sarkar from ISRO, the meeting highlighted the launch of IITK’s new Department of Space, Planetary & Astronomical Sciences & Engineering (SPASE) and the strengthened collaboration with ISRO. Senior ISRO officials emphasized timely project completion, achieving higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), and enhancing skill development. Discussions also focused on promoting new technologies, especially in Space Robotics, and leveraging industry-academia partnerships. The meeting reflected a strong commitment to advancing space research and innovation through collaborative efforts.

The principal investigators of both ongoing and newly submitted proposals presented their project updates during the meeting. Scientists from various ISRO centers also joined the session virtually and actively contributed to the discussions, further enriching the collaborative efforts between ISRO and IIT Kanpur.

Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, organized the Annual SAC-STC Review 2021 through Video Conferencing from 22nd November to 3rd December 2021. Principal Investigators from IIT Kanpur represented the ongoing progress of projects.

IIT Kanpur celebrated National Technology Day 2019 with a thematic program titled "Space Technologies and ISRO" organized by Space Technology Cell, IITK. A couple of popular talks were delivered by scientists from the ISRO. In keeping with this theme, STC invited two well-known scientists in the field of space technology for presentation. The first talk was delivered by Dr. B.S Munjal, Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO. Dr. Munjal spoke on "Technology Applications in Space/Ground Segment of SATCOM Domain". This was followed by a talk by Dr. Mehul R Pandya, SAC, ISRO, who spoke on "Eye in Space for Earth and Planetary Observations". It was followed by the demonstration/display of technologies developed at IIT Kanpur. A group of school children from the city participated in the event.
