Research Activities

AGCETI

As part of the research activities of SBERTC, the AGCETI was established to provide a dynamic venue where academics and real-world practitioners, through spirited dialogue, could link theory and practice. A Doctoral Consortium is held in conjunction with the Conference and is meant to be a means to unite future entrepreneurship educators and scholars with established leaders and researchers in the field.​

Annual Global Conference on Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation (AGCETI) is jointly organized by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, New York, USA and National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN), India. The first conference of the series was held at IIT Kanpur on Jan 16 – Jan 18, 2010.

AGCETI, the way it was intended to be was a gathering of Entrepreneurship and Innovation academics and research-oriented practitioners across the globe, with main focus on the South Asian context. AGCETI is convened annually to present papers and to examine the constantly changing field of entrepreneurship and innovation systems theory and practice.

The conference comprises of paper sessions and plenary sessions providing an effective channel of communication between decision–makers, researchers and practitioners. The objective of AGCETI is to bridge the gap between theory and practice in innovation led entrepreneurship and to highlight the strategic implications of recent research and experience. We at IIT Kanpur, RPI, USA and NEN, India anticipate benefit to the entire community expanding it to the local, regional, national and international level.

In more ways than one AGCETI allows nascent entrepreneurs and innovators to discover an array of information, advice, support and ideas to help them develop their activities. AGCETI helps them adapt to innovation practices in a structured and professionalized way, thus enhancing their performance and strengthening their competitive position in the market. Nevertheless, AGCETI’s ultimate aim is that more and more upcoming companies bring entrepreneurship and innovation to the heart of their corporate strategies.

We foresee AGCETI as one of the very interesting Global Conferences. The interactions here have the power to spark new ideas, initiatives and partnerships rousing provocative and forward thinking to conceive an idea, architect it, build it, market it and sell it.

The AGCETI 2011, the second of its kind was held at IIT Bombay during December 1 – 3, 2011, an endeavor towards inculcating the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst aspirants. The co-organizers were SBERTC-IIT Kanpur, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute USA and National Entrepreneurship Network Bangalore. The program schedule was tailored to suit researchers, teachers, budding entrepreneurs and students in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Highlights –
  1. During addresses made by the keynote speakers, there was a universal portrayal of Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation as the key drivers of economic growth and employment development in the 21st century.
  2. During panel discussions, the participants had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with entrepreneurs,corporate executives and academicians. The ideas shared with the audience gave them new insights as to how to go about using the right tools at the right time.
  3. The technical sessions and the invited papers were a valuable input for the participants.
  4. There was assortment of good quality invited research papers and working papers on innovation and entrepreneurship. These can be used as teaching material for university courses and executive education.

The relevant research papers were made available in the form of CD-ROM and were then published as a book.

The third Annual Global Conference on Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation 2012 was held at IIT Kanpur during December 7 – 9, 2012 saw resounding success with the program schedule planned to suit the all time needs of a budding or an established innovator and entrepreneur mainly focusing on escalation and up gradation of implementation of research ideas.

AGCETI 2012 was jointly organized by SBERTC, IIT Kanpur, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York (USA), International Management Institute, New Delhi and National Entrepreneurship Network, Bangalore. Eminent people from all over the globe were invited as speakers and panelists to share the latest in the field –

A team of top personnel from BHEL, India, held a panel discussion on “Stories of innovation at BHEL”, sharing their first hand experiences. This was highly appreciated by students and the nascent entrepreneurial community. A few top corporate businessmen from India also participated in another panel discussion. 24 papers were presented over the three days which were rated as very useful by the participants. Overall, the participants had an all round exposure to the newest and the most feasible practices in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation.

The conference events helped participants in learning about how businesses and communities can benefit from major resource projects. The conference offered to them an opportunity to learn from showcase projects, hear from business and community leaders, share insights and acquire tools, and network with entrepreneurs and faculty with specialization in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Highlights –
  1. Efforts to explore the many facets of business creation and what it takes to make a business idea come to life.
  2. Discussions on core issues that entrepreneurs face today.
  3. Small group interactions that provided one with an unparalleled depth of theoretical knowledge and experiential practice – traits that are sure to assist in future entrepreneurial efforts.
  4. Intended to be a business construction exercise where one learns the main aspects of business development including: ideation, marketing, finance and corporate decision making.

Outcome and future plans emerging out of the event:

  3. The conference brought together a few leading scholars in the field, who will work collaboratively with each other and with participants, to develop some common understanding regarding how to develop future comparative research, and from that, how to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of entrepreneurship education in the Indian context.
  4. Since the conference is an annual event, this will lead to publication of a journal on an annual basis, a journal that will be a collection of research work done in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation in India and abroad.
