Sarus Crane at IIT Kanpur About travel to IIT Kanpur IIT Kanpur is located off the Grand Trunk Road near Kalyanpur, about 16 km west of Kanpur city. The campus is located on 1055 acres of land offered by the Government of UP. It is a residential campus offering accommodation to about 500 faculty members, about 900 support staff members, and about 7000 students. It is a self-contained campus having a Primary Health Center, Guesthouse accommodations, an auditorium, swimming pool, shops, travel agencies etc. The well-maintained campus has a rich flora and fauna - replete with peacocks, Nilgais (the biggest antelope), porcupines, hares, owls, hornets and even pythons.

A Visa is required to enter India. Please refer to the following link for Conference visa related queries. Please note that IIT Kanpur is an educational institution established and funded by the Central Government of India. No document about the clearance from the Ministry of Home/External Affairs is required for the application of visa. If you are applying for a conference visa, you will have to contact the Indian Embassy / Consulate in your country. The invitation letter we sent to you will suffice to get the Conference visa.

Kanpur Central Railway station is well connected to most cities in North, East and Central India. It is located on the Delhi-Kolkata train route and all major trains between these cities usually pass through Kanpur. IIT Kanpur is located at a distance of about 18 kilometers from the Kanpur Central Railway Station. Ideally, delegates should take the exit on platform -1 to the Cantonment side. It is possible to hire taxis (about Rs. 500) and auto rickshaws (about Rs.300) to IITK from the station. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to drive from Kanpur Central railway station to IIT Kanpur. Alternatively OLA cabs can also be hired in Kanpur, although, it may take upto 15-20 minutes for the driver to reach you given the traffic conditions.

Participants coming by air will usually fly into Lucknow Airporti (LKO). Lucknow airport is located about 95 kms from IIT Kanpur. You can hire taxis at the airport. The typical cost will be about Rs. 2100, and depends on the vehicle used. For invited speakers, our Travel Partner, M/s Dreamz Conference Management Pvt. Ltd., can arrange for a taxi pickup or drop-off at a similar cost which has to be paid to the taxi driver. The taxi driver will be waiting in front of the main exit with a placard bearing your name, and will bring you to IIT campus. It takes anywhere between two and three hours to drive from the Lucknow airport to the IITK, depending on the traffic conditions. Near Kanpur, if the driver brings you along the Ganga Barrage, you would be able to see the holy river Ganga, revered by the Hindus.

There is also an airport at Kanpur (KNU) with one daily flight from Delhi operated by SpiceJet airlines since the beginning of July 2018. You may want to try it out.
