Getting Started

The Abaqus 2016 software and documentation is available for download from the CC FTP Site.
Download Abaqus 2016

Extract the zipped file to a local drive (e.g., D:\).

Critical Configuration Step

Before or after installation, you MUST configure the Environment Variables:

Press Win + R and type sysdm.cpl.
Go to the Advanced tab and click Environment Variables.
Edit the PATH variable (for both System and User).
Click New and add this path: C:\SIMULIA\Commands

To Run Abaqus: Execute C:\SIMULIA\Commands\abq_cae_open.bat

Installation Sequence

It is mandatory to install the components in the given order:

Documentation Setup

Step 1

Go to documentation folder and run setup.exe from D:\Abaqus\DOC_SIM_EstPrd.AllOS\DOC_SIMULIA_Abaqus_fe-safe\Abaqus_2016. Click "Next".

Step 2

Click "Next".

Step 3

Click "Next".

Select Documentation Format

Step 4

Select "HTML and PDF (recommended)" and click "Next".

Step 5

Enter your PC name and click "Next".

Step 6

Select "Abaqus web server (recommended)" and click "Next".

Select Directory

Step 7

Select the "Abaqus documentation parent directory" and click "Next".

Create Directory

Step 8

Click "Yes" to create the directory.

Step 9

If asked, allow access to "Java" for private network in Windows Firewall.

Step 10

Click "Install".

Step 11

Click "Done".

Step 12 (Solver)

Go to D:\Abaqus\Abaqus2016_64\3DEXPERIENCE_AbaqusSolver\Windows64 and run setup. Click "Continue".

Step 13

Click "Next".

Step 14

Click "Next".

Click "Next".

Step 16

Click "Install".

Click "Close".

Step 18 (CAA)

Go to D:\Abaqus\Abaqus2016_64\CAA_3DEXPERIENCE_AbaqusSolver\Windows64 and run setup. Click "Next".

Step 19

Click "Next".

Step 20

Click "Next".

Click "Install".

Step 22

Click "Close".

Step 23 (CAE)

Go to D:\Abaqus\Abaqus2016_64\SIMULIA_Abaqus_CAE\Windows64 and run setup. Click "Next".

Installation Directory

Step 24

Choose installation directory (default recommended) and click "Next".

Solver Location

Step 25

Specify the location of Abaqus Solver installation and click "Next".

CAE Command Directory

Step 26

Provide target location for CAE command directory and click "Next".

Step 27 (License)

Select "SIMULIA FLEXnet" and specify license server: 29000@akash3.cc.iitk.ac.in. Click "Next".
Campus Network connectivity required. Configure DNS Suffixes.

Step 28

Click "Next".

Working Directory

Step 29

Specify default Abaqus working directory (e.g., C:\temp) and click "Next".

Step 30

Click "Install".

Installation Complete!

Remember to verify your Environment Variables.

Finish

All components installed successfully. Your Abaqus 2016 is ready to use!
