Prof. Sachchida Nand Tripathi
Inaugural Dean, Kotak School of Sustainability, IIT KanpurProf. Sachchida Nand Tripathi serves as the inaugural Dean of the Kotak School of Sustainability and is a Professor in the Departments of Civil Engineering and Sustainable Energy Engineering at IIT Kanpur.
Over the past decade, Prof. Tripathi has made pioneering contributions to air quality monitoring and management technologies in India. He is credited with implementing the largest sensor-based air quality network in the country, enabling cities to adopt data-driven strategies for cleaner air. His research spans aerosol–cloud interactions, regional climate change, and AI/ML-enabled pollution source apportionment.
As the founder of the Centre of Excellence (ATMAN) and Project Director of India’s first AI Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cities, he leads a consortium of 20+ faculty and industry partners. His work applies AI to energy optimisation, digital twins for urban mobility, and real-time air quality policy evaluation.
Prof. Tripathi’s leadership bridges the gap between high-level scientific research and national policy. Since joining the IIT Kanpur faculty in 2003, he has guided over 20 Ph.D. scholars and mentored start-ups that have become leaders in environmental technology.
