Dean's Message

As we cross one year of lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I take pride in mentioning that the DoRA office successfully conducted all its activities, especially reconnecting with its alums around the globe virtually. Sessions, such as ‘You & I’, proved to be quite fruitful as they gave the Institute an opportunity to share its new initiatives and future plans.

Virtual reunions were a huge success as they gave our alums a platform to reconnect and relive their IITK memories. The pledges made by batches and individuals to support the Institute’s various initiatives, especially the School of Medical Research & Technology, show the strong bond they feel toward their Alma mater and the belief in keeping the tradition of giving back alive. I am proud to mention that our esteemed alumnus, Mr. Micky Pant and his wife, Mrs. Vinita Pant, made the first donation of USD 2.5 million toward the development of SMRT.

In the last two years, we have made significant improvements in our outreach and fundraising activities. However, to professionalize engagement with alumni and other stakeholders, we have now instituted IITK Development Foundation. This section 8 company will actively engage with various internal and external stakeholders within and outside the Institute to raise long-term sustainable resources to meet the growing needs of IIT Kanpur. Mr. Kapil Kaul, who took charge as the CEO of IITK DF, and his team will work towards generating resources to ensure the growth aspirations of the Institute are met.

As we move forward, let us look into this year with optimism to overcome challenges and build stronger alumni-institute relation. While we continue to hold various virtual events, we are looking forward to conducting reunions later this year and meet alumni.

With best wishes,
Prof. Jayant K. Singh
