Established in 1965, under Kanpur Indo American program with the objective of helping in developing a scientific temper and extension of education through audio visual means, it was one & the only set up in the entire country . TV Centre of I.I.T. KANPUR came to lime light in 1973 with the live broad -cast of the 3rd cricket test match between INDIA & ENGLAND held at the green park stadium Kanpur. Those were the days when there was no regional TV station. The students used to produce programs relayed to the campus audience. Eminent personalities to appear on I.I.T.-TV included Dr.Radha Krishnan, Pt. Ravishanker , PN Haksar, Dr. Raja Ramanna & Khushwant Singh. TV Centre produced 12 educational programs on basic concepts of science for the ISROs 1st SITE experiment . 7 days filming at Bhilai steel plant resulted in installation of a computer which ended the wastage in its billet cutting plant. Towards the fag end of 1976, video appeared on the Indian scene & soon with those ½ equipments TVC produced a no. of films on science & information. Sponsored by IRDT, a workshop on video film production was organised for the benefit of the Poly-Technic teachers. In 1988, the Govt. of India approved the education technology project which enabled TVC to acquire the latest professional equipments. Realizing the dearth of trained man power a one year training program was started for program assistants in 1991. The trainees acquired jobs in Doordarshan, Zee TV& El TV etc. Education Canvas being very large; TVC made 8 hours program on cancer operation & similar effort was done for Eye operation. Contribution were made to UGC & Doordarshan in terms of programs. Indian Armys 45 cavalry unit sponsored film "VeerBhagya Vasundhara was also broadcast through Doordarshan. Similarly, UP govts Deptt. of Rural Development sponsored documentary Parvatias villagewas also repeatedly broadcast by Doordarshan. Realizing the impact of Computers, TVC opted for non-linear Editing system & is in a position to deliver the best quality of programs for broadcast any where in the world. |
