2007 SURE Programme Announcement
The Institute is pleased to announce a very special student research initiative between the Ecolé Centrale Paris, France, and Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by the two institutes, to encourage undergraduate student research at IIT Kanpur. As part of this understanding, up to three students of IIT Kanpur can participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Exchange (SURE) programme at Ecolé Centrale (www.ecp.fr) during the summer of 2007. Third year undergraduate students, fourth year integrated M.Sc. and 4th year dual degree M.Tech. students of the Institute are eligible to apply for this exchange programme. Students desirous of applying for this Exchange Programme are required to turn in a preliminary application to Ms. Neha Gupta at the Office of the Dean, Resource Planning and Generation, IIT Kanpur, by 22nd February 2007. A preliminary application packet includes:
(a) An application (form available at http://www.iitk.ac.in/surge/ecole_application.doc) filled by the student,
(b) Two recommendation letters from faculty members of IIT Kanpur with whom the student has been closely associated and who would be able to provide an objective assessment of the student's interests and research aptitude, and
(c) A statement of purpose (in a maximum of 300 words) written by the student explaining –
why she/he deserves to be selected for Ecolé Centrale's Summer Undergraduate Research Exchange ; and
what broad area she/he wishes to work specifying what interests the student to undertake research in that area.
Third year students who need to undergo formal summer training during the summer may seek approval in writing from the respective conveners of DUGC before filing their application. Applicants may be called for an interview at IIT Kanpur before their applications are forwarded to Ecolé Centrale for their consideration and final decision.
