Swimming Pool Management
Swimming Pool is an Institute Community Facility operating under the Physical Education Section through a Management Committee appointed by the Director. The expenses incurred in day to day maintenance and running of the swimming pool will be met out of the income generated through membership fees. The staff of the swimming pool will be directly under the control of the In-charge, Physical Education Section.
Swimming Pool Management Committee will consist of following members.
- A faculty member who is a member of the Games & Sports Committee Chairman
- Faculty nominee, Member
- General Secretary, Games & Sports, Member
- Captain, Institute Swimming Team, Member
- In-charge, Physical Education Section, Member-Secretary
Duties and Responsibilities of the Swimming Pool Management Committee:
- To prepare the budget and lay down the policy guidelines for smooth running of the pool.
- To decide about membership fees for different categories of users and charges for the guests of the members.
- To decide about the dates of opening and closing of a swimming season.
- To decide about pool timings and slots for swimming pool usage.
- To formulate/revise conduct rules and guidelines for smooth running of the swimming pool.
- To formulate qualifications for lifeguards and to constitute selection committee for hiring them.
- To provide kit for life-guards.
- To decide about any other matter which it deems necessary for the smooth running of the swimming pool.

Sports and Physical education Committee (SPEC) is responsible for all management and executive matters related to sports and the Physical Education Section.
The committee consists of the following members with the provision that they may coopt 2 more members:
- Games Counselor
- Chairman, swimming Pool Management Committee
- Three more faculty/staff members
- Supt. engineer/ Executive Engineer
- Sports Secretary, Student Gymkhana
- One coaching representative
- AR (from DOSA office)
The duties of the committee are the following:
- Oversee the conduct of sports activities, preparation of teams for inter IIT meet, etc.
- Oversee the conduct of PE 101 and 102 classes and award grades.
- All administrative issues including financial and manpower budgeting, disbursement, logistics, purchase of equipment, work assignment, etc.
- All planning issues including future requirement of sports facilities, optimum use of the current facilities, vision of sports at IIT K etc.
- Decisions on upkeep.

Ms. Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha (well known as P.T. Usha), also known as the Udan Pari/Golden Girl/Sprint Queen/Payyoli Express, has brought honour to the nation through excellent performance in International Sports Competitions viz. the Olympic Games, World Championships, Asian Games as well as Asian Track & Field Championships, in which she won more than 100 International medals. This year (2017), Ms. Usha received Doctorate of Science (Honoris Causa) degree at the 50th Convocation of IITK. IIT Kanpur is committed towards recognition of Indian Sports legends.
The PE Section of IIT Kanpur was honoured to host Ms. Usha. She visited various Games & Sports facilities and interacted with our students and the campus community
