NSS Students Engage in Gram Sabha to Understand Village Development

NSS IITK Participation in Gram Sabha

Students of National Service Scheme (NSS) from IIT Kanpur attended a Village Assembly and Learnt About Village Development Work. Under the Indian government’s “Ekta Diwas” initiative on September 23, a special Gram Sabha (village assembly) was held on October 2 in the Haluwapur Gram Panchayat of Kanpur city district. IIT Kanpur students actively participated in this special meeting to learn about the development activities of Gram Panchayats.

Development Plans and Women Empowerment

During this session, discussions were held regarding the 2025-26 development plans for villages. Various government initiatives were highlighted, including free 35-day training programs in tailoring and painting on clay products, which help women gain economic independence. With these skills, women in villages can earn between ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 per month.

The meeting was attended by Anil Singh from IIT Kanpur, district-level senior district panchayat officer Teena Singh, block development officer from Himayatpur, village secretary Satendra Sankar, village head Rooparam, and panchayat assistant Aakriti Gautam. Their presence facilitated a comprehensive understanding of the ongoing and planned development initiatives.
