Justification of requirement:
IIT Kanpur is a residential Institute and requires that
all students registered for a degree program reside with in the campus
itself. Therefore, all students are provided room accommodation in Halls
of Residences except those belonging to the following categories:

The Institute has 6 Halls of Residence for Boys, 1 for
Girls, 60 SBRA for married students, 30 Type-II ACES quarters and 24 SBRA's
for sponsored candidates. The no. of seats available for each type of
accommodation is as follows :

Therefore there will be a net short fall of 705 seats
as on 01.07.01. Hence there is a need to take up construction of a new
Hall of Residence for Boys no.- VIII to meet the demand of additional
seats.
In order to provide additional seating capacity for the boys, construction
of a new hall of residence no. VII has been taken up. The salient statistics
