Position: Senior Project Scientist

Applications are invited from dynamic and motivated candidates for the position of Senior Project Scientist in the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering, IIT Kanpur. The selected candidate will be responsible for the operation, management, maintenance, and technical coordination of the departmental characterization facilities that support multidisciplinary research activities.

Essential Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. in Science/Engineering (related to Materials Science) with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

OR

M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

2. Relevant experience in scientific characterization, analytical instrumentation, laboratory operations or research facility management.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience: Candidates having demonstrated experience in independent management and operation of multi-user characterization facilities will be preferred.

• Hands-on experience in operation and handling of FESEM, XRD, BET, LC-MS, GC, GC-MS and GPC-MS, along with associated sample preparation.
• Experience in instrument scheduling, user coordination and management of characterization slots.
• Experience in routine/daily maintenance, preventive maintenance and first-level troubleshooting of scientific instruments.
• Experience in coordinating with service engineers/OEMs/vendors for calibration, servicing and repair of instruments.
• Maintenance of instrument logbooks, usage records, maintenance records, consumable inventories and service documentation.
• Experience in sample preparation, data acquisition and basic processing/analysis of characterization data.
• Experience in processing and coordinating characterization forms and related documentation.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with faculty members, research scholars, students and other facility users and independently manage day-to-day facility operations.
• Good oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Term of Appointment: 1 year, which may be extended further based on performance and requirements.

Salary: INR 38,800-3,200-96,400 per month (consolidated). A higher starting salary may be considered for exceptionally qualified/experienced candidates as per IIT Kanpur norms.
