Applications are invited for a temporary & contractual post of Sr. Project Engineer under the project titled: “UniGrip – A Universal Robotic Gripper using Biomimetic Tactile Sensor” at the Samtel Centre for Display Technologies (SCDT) / National Centre for Flexible Electronics, IIT Kanpur

Name of Post: Sr. Project Engineer

Minimum Qualification: Ph.D.* (Engineering stream), Or M.Tech + 3 years relevant experience, Or B.Tech with M.B.A. + 3 years relevant experience, Or B.Tech. + 5 years relevant experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Robotics or Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering

Desirable Qualification and Experience:: Atleast five years experience in the followings

  • Experience in embedded systems, robotics, or mechatronics product development
  • Experience with FPGA development tools such as Vivado
  • Background in sensor interfacing, force sensing, or robotic grippers
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers and communication protocols
  • Involvement in projects related to tactile sensing, end-effector design, or robotic manipulation

Desirable Functional Skills:

  • Proficiency in embedded firmware development using C/C++, and scripting with Python
  • Integration of sensors (force/torque, FSR, capacitive, IMUs) with microcontrollers and DAQ systems
  • Strong foundation in signal conditioning, analog electronics, ADC circuits, and PCB prototyping
  • Experience in the development and testing of robotic grippers with tactile sensor feedback
  • Exposure to ROS / ROS2, real-time control, and hardware-in-loop testing
  • Familiarity with 3D printing, basic CAD modeling, and rapid prototyping
  • Ability to perform system-level debugging and performance analysis

Preferred Skills:

Experience working with robotic arms, PID control, or sensor fusion algorithms

Familiarity with ROS, Gazebo, or similar robotics simulation platforms

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams (hardware, software, fabrication)
  • Strong documentation and troubleshooting skills
  • Passion for productization, prototyping, and translational research

Salary: Rs. 38800-3200-96400 (per month based on qualification)

Term of the appointment will be purely on temporary and contractual basis initially for a period of three years or end of the project, whichever is earlier
