Applications are invited for Three (03) project positions for one year (extendable based on performance and project duration) in the project titled "Automated Generalization of Geographical Features for Small Scale Representation" at the National Centre for Geodesy, IIT Kanpur.
Designation: Project Scientist / Project Engineer
Salary Scale: ₹ 31,600 – 2,600 – 78,400
Minimum Qualifications
- M.Tech / M.E. / M.S. / M.Sc. / MCA (Geoinformatics / Civil / Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics / Earth Sciences / Mathematics / Physics / Data Science / Allied disciplines), freshers can apply.
OR
- B.Tech / B.E. / B.S. (Geoinformatics / Civil / Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics / Allied Engineering disciplines) with 1 year of relevant experience.
Desirable Qualification:
- Good understanding of Cartography, GIS, and Topographic Mapping
- Experience in GIS programming, QGIS software, and PostgreSQL + PostGIS
- Proficient in Python and Java programming languages
- Basic understanding of Unified Modelling Language (UML) and GitHub
- Basic knowledge of coordinate geometry and vector algebra
Nature of the work:
- Designing, developing, and implementing map generalization algorithms in Python
- Developing QGIS toolbox for generalizing geographical features
- Analysis of data and results
- Drafting manuscripts
Other Facilities: The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work in a conducive environment and may be eligible for suitable accommodation at IIT Kanpur, subject to availability. Outpatient department (OPD) services will be available for the candidate at the Health Centre of IIT Kanpur.
