Vacancy for One Project Postdoc Fellow

About the project: As part of the ATMAN (Advanced Technologies for Monitoring Air quality iNdicators) Center of Excellence (CoE) at IIT Kanpur, the project MANAS (Mumbai Air Network for Advanced Sciences) was proposed.

Project MANAS is being designed with 3 key objectives –

  1. Hyperlocal Sensors-based Ambient Air Quality Monitoring (SAAQM) Network.
  2. Advanced Real-time Air Quality Analytics Dashboard available as part of the Integrated Control and Command Center (ICCC) for Mumbai City government agencies.
  3. Air Pollution mitigation measures for large sources like Construction dust, Road dust and other known sources of pollution in Mumbai.

Nature of Work: The goal of the project is to develop and evaluate reduced-complexity models of air pollution for use by Indian decision-makers. The primary products will be source-receptor matrices that relate emissions of particulate matter and its precursors to downwind concentrations and damage metrics, i.e., health damages per tonne of emitted pollutant, for emissions as a function of species and location. In the later stages, the work will involve outreach and training to disseminate the tools for use by policy-makers.

 Relevant skills & experience:

  • Strong background in atmospheric modeling and air quality  research.
  • Significant background in handling and processing large data sets.
  • Impressive publications record in high impact air quality research Knowledge of any scientific programming language.
  • High proficiency in programming languages like FORTRAN, Python, MATLAB, Igor, R etc.

Compensation & benefits: He/she will get the opportunity to work in a conducive environment and can avail the hostel/family accommodation facility (according to availability) at IIT Kanpur.

As regards the medical facilities, only the OPD facility for self shall be available at the Health Centre of IIT Kanpur without any reimbursement of cost of medicines. Any outside referral shall not be reimbursed. For the purpose, a medical booklet shall be provided to you on request.

Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in Civil Engineering/Environmental Sciences/Atmospheric Sciences/Climate sciences/mathematics/physics/Climate Policy or relevant field.

Duration of Appointment:

  • The post is purely temporary and is on contractual basis.
  • The appointment for the post is up to three years or till the completion of the project, whichever is earlier.
  • Appointment will be initially for one Renewal of appointment will be subjected to the performance of the candidate.
  • Salary: 60,000-5000-85,000 per month (as per the experience)
