Smart Materials Structures and Systems Laboratory (SMSS), Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur is seeking passionate and motivated researchers to work on Design & Development of an Aaray of Electroencephalogram (EEG) / functional near Infrared Spectroscopy (FNIRS) integrated with mofal sensory system to capture, analyse and classify the emotions of consumers for product preferences based on deep learning Neural Networks.

Project Title:- Design & Development of an Aaray of Electroencephalogram (EEG) / functional near Infrared Spectroscopy (FNIRS) integrated with mofal sensory system to capture, analyse and classify the emotions of consumers for product preferences based on deep learning Neural Networks.

Name of the Post: Project Post Doctoral Fellow

Salary: Rs. 60000-5000-85000 Per Month.

(Higher starting salary may be considered for exceptionally qualified/experienced candidates as per IITK Rules)

Minimum Qualification: Ph.D. from a reputed university/institute (Biomedical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Science / Neuroscience / Cognitive Science / Artificial Intelligence / Signal Processing), with an excellent research track record and publications/patents in areas relevant to the sponsored project.

Responsibilities & Essential Skillset:

  1. Demonstrated research experience in EEG and/or fNIRS signal acquisition, processing, and interpretation.
  2. Strong background in affective computing, emotion recognition, consumer neuroscience, or human-centered AI.
  3. Expertise in deep learning architectures for time-series and multimodal data (CNN, RNN/LSTM, Transformers, GCNs, or hybrid models).
  4. Experience in multimodal sensor fusion, statistical validation, and subject-independent modeling.
  5. Proficiency in Python, scientific computing, and ML/DL frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  6. Ability to independently design experiments, mentor project staff/students, and contribute to high-quality journal publications and reports.
  7. Experience in statistical analysis, model validation, and reproducibility practices for large-scale experimental datasets, including appropriate use of statistical tests, performance metrics, and result interpretation for peer-reviewed publications.
